These issues are studied from various perspectives: those with the disease, their families & caregivers, and from a broader perspective, the Canadian public. The report describes the features of Alzheimer disease & related dementias and what current scientific research reveals about the causes, prevention, & treatment of Alzheimer disease; assesses the adequacy of existing public policies in health & community services in addressing the care needs and improving the quality of life of Canadians affected by dementia; and outlines the need for a National Alzheimer Strategy to address this serious disease in the context of an ageing society.
