S'appuyant sur une recherche comparative entre huit pays européens et deux pays extérieurs (Canada et Turquie), cet ouvrage fait le point sur ce sujet sensible : le traitement judiciaire de la délinquance des jeunes. Si des évolutions différenciées se laissent percevoir en fonction des différences culturelles, nous retrouvons dans les différents pays concernés, d'une part, un contexte commun marqué par les défis de la mondialisation, l'influence d'un modèle économique à caractère néolibéral caractérisé par l'affaiblissement de l'État et une remise en cause de la mutualisation des systèmes de protection sociale, l'accroissement de la vulnérabilité sociale et économique des jeunes ; d'autre part, une dramatisation de la thématique de la délinquance juvénile et la tentation d'une pénalisation accrue des comportements déviants sous l'influence d'un courant néoconservateur. Transformations to the criminal justice system in Western societies are often linked with broader social and cultural changes, and this work presents the recent changes in juvenile justice in Canada and nine European countries and the sociopolitical context in which they take place. The study provides a comparison of the sentencing practices of each country, focusing on three dimensions related to the sanction practices: the custodial sanctions, the alternative sanctions, and the extension of the judicial thinking into relative fields such as school, training, and social policies.
