Book Description
This book explores how social workers incorporate issues of culture when evaluating the parenting competence of Black, Asian, and Minority Ethnic (BAME) parents and highlights the gap in how social workers assess safe parenting in BAME families. Drawing on a study that combined a phenomenological research philosophy with frame analysis, the book explores how culturally informed parenting is construed by social workers and BAME parents. It argues that effective assessment of the parenting competence of BAME parents is predicated on understanding how culture frames perspectives of what constitutes competent parenting. Throughout the eight chapters, the book moves the debate within the literature away from the universality of parenting concepts to a focus on a deeper understanding of culture. It highlights the influence that culture has on the way that BAME parents socialise their children, as well as how parents and social workers conceptualise safe parenting. The result is useful insights into the cultural context of parenting. The book will be of interest to all scholars and students of social work, childhood studies, sociology, and social policy, as well as social work professionals more broadly.

Book Description
It is 3088 in a world divided into four leagues of dragons, the evilest being Zealian whose hunger for supremacy has outgrown the world. Now a Drakon Master of the peaceful Aurian League has vanished. No one knows who kidnapped the headstrong Aldaina Numara, who is gifted with the power of air-breath. As the rumble of war spreads on the planet of Marquee Viridian, the Dragon Breaths Corporation declares itself as reigning governor of all leagues in a last-ditch effort to bind the powers of fire, water, air, and ice. In an attempt to find his older sister, Aldaina, seventeen-year-old Aurian Drakon Master, Jett Trace, embarks on a journey to the far reaches of the North, where Aldaina has supposedly ventured to help the League form an alliance with the ice-breathing Crystallians. With few clues to guide him, Jett begins to piece together a complex puzzle that includes missing airships, a foreboding feeling, and word of a secret operation. As the Zealian League continues on a destructive path toward a revolutionary reign, Jett soon realizes that the Neptunian's water-breath may be the only thing that can change the game plan in an epic battle for supremacy. In this futuristic story, a brutal fight to control the power of four dragon breaths ensues as a young Drakon Master risks everything to rescue his sister from evil forces.

Book Description
The Teacher’s Attention is a fresh take on relationships in schools. Looking beyond our obsession with raising test scores, this book recognizes that education is a key partner in raising children. Garrett Delavan contends that allowing students, educators and parents to navigate a smaller number of relationships—a concept he calls "relationship load"—provides many benefits, including a better chance at achieving equal access to a good education for all children. Delavan shows how class size, school size, and longer-term student-teacher relationships are all equally critical components for educating our children ethically and successfully. After examining these proposed reforms in detail, Delavan also considers counterarguments and provides a detailed projection of costs and savings, putting to rest the assumption that smaller classes and smaller schools are necessarily more expensive. Finally, the book discusses possible steps toward implementation, showing how the author's proposed reforms are remarkably practical.
