Using Mosaic and the Internet: an Interactive Guide for Junior High Students
Author: University of Arizona. Dept. of Computer Science
Publisher:
ISBN:
Category : Internet
Languages : en
Pages : 74
Book Description
Abstract: "Computer Capers is an annual outreach program conducted at The University of Arizona, Department of Computer Science. Each June, 50 junior high kids attend one of two, [sic] one-week sessions. For 1994 and 1995, the curriculum has focused on the Internet and the use of Mosaic and associated tools. These lessons were developed for this course in May 1994, revised and updated in May 1995, and tested during Capers each year. They are being made available in a variety of formats [html, postscript, hard copy, FrameMaker] in the hope that they may prove useful to others. The lessons have two main goals. The first is to familiarize students with Mosaic and its supporting tools on Macintosh computers so the students can explore the World Wide Web. The second goal is to encourage students to develop their own home pages, learning the basics of HTML and how to include pictures, sounds, movies, and links. The first two lessons provide an introduction to using the Macintosh. Lessons three through seven cover the use of Mosaic and its principal support tools: JPEGView, MoviePlayer, Sparkle and Sound Machine. Lesson eight provides some starting points for net surfing, including a number of sites to explore. Finally, lessons nine and ten cover designing and writing home pages."
