Book Description
Kata ton daimona eaytoy (κατά ton δαίμονα εαυτού) is a phrase from the ancient Greek, a concept embraced by the stoicism that can be interpreted in many ways in the modern day. This philosophy is best perceived in the culture of Fin de siècle, which lasted from 1880s till around 1890s. It was considered a period of degeneration but also a period for a new beginning. The transition between a fact and the destruction of it to create a new reality. The term Fin de siècle is commonly applied to the French artists, but it also represents globally the "end of an era" and the beginning of a new one. Castano's dark poetry aims to achieve this concept, showing that even beauty has a dark side, in a hopeful attempt to make us appreciate it even more. When we know the whole of our reality, we know better what we have.

Book Description
In July 1976, a twenty-four-year-old white woman, Margo Olson, was found in a shallow grave in Stamford, Connecticut, with an arrow piercing through her heart. A few weeks later, Howie Carter, her black boyfriend, was killed by the police. Howie and Margo’s interracial relationship held a distorted mirror to the author’s own, with Howie’s best friend, Joe. Joe’s theory was that the police didn’t have any evidence to arrest Howie; operating on the assumption that the black man is always guilty, they killed him instead. Margo’s murder was never solved. Looking back at what might have happened in 1976, the author discovers a Bicentennial year steeped in recession, racism, and unrelenting violence. It was also a time of flourishing second-wave feminism, when young women were encouraged to do anything, if only they knew how. Stamford was in the midst of urban renewal, destroying historically black neighborhoods to create space for corporations escaping a bankrupt and dangerous New York City, just forty miles away. Organized crime followed the money, infiltrating Stamford at all levels. The author reveals how racism, misogyny, the economy, and corruption affected the young people’s daily lives, and helped lead Margo and Howie to their deaths.

Book Description
PRIVATE INVESTIGATOR SAM MARLOWE travels to Paris in search of the Modern world, a valuable object that may or may not have gone missing. On the Right Bank, the philosophical investigator Honoré de Balzac leads Sam through the French cultural experience of the last five centuries while instructing him on the art of becoming a raconteur, a teller of tales. Sam must then make sense of postmodern Paris, a confusing labyrinth devoid of the usual signposts that normally direct Western Civilization. On the Left Bank, he meets another philosophical investigator, Marcel Proust, who guides him along the corridors of existentialist thought while instructing him on the art of becoming a flâneur, a spectator of life. During his investigation Sam encounters numerous Francophile historians and philosophers, as well as many writers and characters of French literature. The story is much like the menu at a fine French restaurant, with the first-time guest longing to sample all the exquisite dishes before making a final choice. Fortunately, the diner can taste that very special dish on another visit to Café Philosophique. Bon Appétit!

Book Description
You’ll never be at a loss for words again with this inspired collection of quotes, from bona fide wits to bona fide dimwits. Bob Hope once said, "I grew up with six brothers. That’s how I learned to dance--waiting for the bathroom." No doubt, lots of people will be learning to tango and foxtrot while they wait for the rabid readers of Uncle John’s Colossal Collection of Quotable Quotes to emerge from the privy. The Bathroom Readers’ Institute searched high and low for the wittiest, wisest and stupidest things ever said, and collected these remarks in one remarkable volume. With more than 4,000 quotations from 1,600 speakers and writers--from bona fide wits like Oscar Wilde and David Letterman, to bona fide dimwits like Britney Spears (who infamously quipped, "I go to lots of overseas places, like Canada.")--there’s no other book of quotations quite like this one.
