Book Description
Aesthetically seductive, yet socio politically charged; confrontational yet inviting, captivating and provocative are the artworks by Juan Logan. In a recent art journey, I came across his body of work at Logan Studios and became quickly intoxicated. Unlike encountering them in a museum space, an institution or a gallery; here I found myself entranced in a different type of aesthetic journey; one that would lead me to experience an understanding which I had not encountered before. Juan Logan's body of work is fascinating; enchanting and challenging all at once, unapologetic and strong with hints of sarcasm and irony that serve to challenge the viewer into engaging with the heavy issues he addresses with every piece he produces.

Book Description
Revenge is a dish best served... STEAMING HOT!!! After being beaten, clubbed, and stomped almost to death by two fag-bashing, jack-booted brothers on the darkened streets of Atchafalaya City, Louisiana, gourmet chef, Kenneth James Cunningham, wants revenge. But being dead, there’s nothing he can do about catching his killers so, two weeks after his death, he revives whole, solid, very human, and sexy as hell, in a most unusual vehicle, to solicit help in capturing the murderers. Kenny, as he prefers to be called, has many restrictions: he cannot leave the floor on which he died, he cannot read people’s minds, fly about, or walk through walls like ghosts do in movies, TV, or books; and he is invisible to everyone but his would-be rescuer, Jeremy Mallory, but he can provide crucial information that can lead to the capture of the dastardly brothers. He gets huffy if he’s called a ghost and downright pissed if he’s called a “friendly ghost,” preferring the term, “disembodied spirit.” To occupy his time and “show his appreciation,” Kenny whips up gourmet fare for Jeremy on a nightly basis and, true to the old axiom, “the way to a man’s heart is through his stomach,” they fall in love despite knowing that their affair is doomed to be short-lived. When Miz Xochipapálotl (“Xochi” for short) Zamorawitz, Atchafalaya City’s only homicide detective, doesn’t appear to be doing anything to catch the killers, Jeremy steps in to do the job, which is greatly facilitated when the killers come hunting for him!

Book Description
Running with my pants down is a perfect metaphor for the life of one Logan Hunter. Emotionally scarred by the faith forced on him by the traditions of his wildly dysfunctional Catholic-centric family, Logan sets out to blaze his own trail. After a young marriage that everyone knew was doomed to failure, he moves on at a breakneck pace to drink in all that life has to offer, literally and figuratively. His life becomes ruled by the three Bs: business, bed-hopping, and booze. Somewhere along the way, he meets Misty, the sex kitten; Kat, the young, unpredictable one; Liz, the cougar with a voracious appetite for younger men; Champagne Washington, the sultry nightclub singer; Connie and Amanda, the gorgeous, sophisticated, and carnally experimental women who give him a night hell never forget; The Wild ThingsDelta Sue, Kitten, and Lola; and the always-intoxicating Spanish beauty, Carmen. Could there be more? In an ironic twist of fate, Logans best friend, Eddie, starts down an unexpected, life-altering path that begins to mirror Logans. Neither could predict just how a couple of chance meetings would change the game for each of them.

Book Description
Thornton Dial (1928-2016), one of the most important artists in the American South, came to prominence in the late 1980s and was celebrated internationally for his large construction pieces and mixed-media paintings. It was only later, in response to a reviewer's negative comment on his artistic ability, that he began to work on paper. And it was not until recently that these drawings have received the acclaim they deserve. This volume, edited by Bernard L. Herman, offers the first sustained critical attention to Dial's works on paper. Concentrating on Dial's early drawings, the contributors examine Dial's use of line and color and his recurrent themes of love, lust, and faith. They also discuss the artist's sense of place and history, relate his drawings to his larger works, and explore how his drawing has evolved since its emergence in the early 1990s. Together, the essays investigate questions of creativity and commentary in the work of African American artists and contextualize Dial's works on paper in the body of American art. The contributors are Cara Zimmerman, Bernard Herman, Glenn Hinson, Juan Logan, and Colin Rhodes.

Book Description
"This edited collection presents articles in southern food studies by a range of writers, from established scholars like Psyche Williams-Forson to emerging scholars like Rien Fertel. All are chosen for a combination of accessible writing and solid scholarship and offer stories and historical details that add to our understanding of the complexities of southern food and foodways. The editors have chosen to organize the collection by methodology in part in order to escape what reader Belasco calls "the tradition-inventing, nostalgic approach of so many books about regional foodways." They also aim to advance the field by presenting articles that represent a range of tools and methodologies from disciplines such as history, geography, social sciences, American studies, gender studies, literary theory, visual and aural studies, cultural studies and technology studies that make up the amazingly multifaceted world of academic food studies, in hopes that this structure can help further a conversation about best practices"--

Book Description
Explorer Morgan Sjogren retraces the 1920s Bernheimer expeditions into the heart of Glen Canyon and Bears Ears National Monument to learn from and defend these uniquely wild places. Path of Light treks back through time as author and explorer Morgan Sjogren retraces the 1920s expeditions led by Charles L. Bernheimer into the heart of Glen Canyon and Bears Ears National Monument. Using journals and photographs from the expeditions to recreate these historic routes, Sjogren encounters powerful perspectives and stories about land management and human rights issues that carry forth into the present. Mindful of the pervasive effects of colonization and motivated by a deeply personal care for the land, Sjogren asks what it means to be an explorer while learning from the people who have loved the land for millennia and moments. Path of Light walks towards an illuminated understanding of the landscape and its history in an effort to help preserve it for the future.
