Two paths, one choice. Honourable death which dooms the kingdoms, or dishonourable life which saves them? Grieving, confused, and angry after the death of his bonded Sorcerer, Trerin must stay alive long enough to fulfil a prophecy. If he fails to save Princess Rykatu Crystu, the powerful Sorceress will be magically converted to serve their enemies' god and will lead his armies to victory against her own people. The fate of the Kingdoms now rests on the formerly carefree shapeshifter. Dishonoured while he remains alive, part of him longs for death, and there are many enemies ahead who are eager to oblige. How can he find the strength to choose life and duty, when honour - and his Second Oath - demands death?

The Heroine's Journey
Author: Maureen Murdock
Publisher: Shambhala Publications
ISBN: 1611808308
Category : Psychology
Languages : en
Pages : 249
Book Description
The Heroine’s Journey describes contemporary woman’s search for wholeness in a society where she has been defined according to masculine values. Drawing on cultural myths and fairy tales, ancient symbols and goddesses, and the dreams of contemporary women, Murdock illustrates the need for—and the reality of—feminine values in Western culture. This special anniversary edition, with a new foreword by Christine Downing and preface by the author, illuminates that this need is just as relevant today as it was when the book was originally published thirty years ago.

Haworth's
Author: Frances Hodgson Burnett
Publisher:
ISBN:
Category : American fiction
Languages : en
Pages : 430
Book Description
Haworth's is a Lancashire story - its scene laid in the great ironworks, whose owner, Jem Haworth, is a hero of the book. Young Murdoch, the American of the story, will dispute with this strongly-marked, rough-hewn manufacturer the chief place in the reader's interest. In Rachel French appears a type of woman's character which Mrs. Burnett has not given us before, and which shows a new side of her peculiarly dramatic power.

A Journey from 726 Walnut Street
Author: Ramon Noches
Publisher: Xlibris Corporation
ISBN: 1469119382
Category : Biography & Autobiography
Languages : en
Pages : 342
Book Description
I began this book not as a planned publication but as an in-depth chronicle of my recollections. It is a very raw and largely unedited and every word I personally wrote. Most of my life's experiences contained in the book cover the years from 1942 to 2001. I did not write it for profit or any notion of self-aggrandizement, but something to pass on to my propensity. In fact, my preference is that sales remain low. It does contain several items of historical note probably not covered in other publications. My reasoning was to convert a very lengthy memo into published form because of a similar effort by my Great Grandfather Marshall George Newman (Son of an Indian Chief) that failed. He composed a very lengthy document about his experiences from 1840s forward. That document passed through many hands and eventually disappeared. I did not want to repeat his experience so I elected to complete it in a book that would probably last for many years. Are there inaccuracies in this book, probably, but very few as I made every effort to be honest, direct, and straightforward in all aspects in developing the final product. Perhaps the biggest issue many would have is how honest I related both the good and bad of my life without the obfuscation we see, read, and hear in everyday life. I know of no other path to take than to be honest and not join in the trampling of the word integrity.

Being Black in America's Schools
Author: Brian Rashad Fuller
Publisher: Dafina
ISBN: 1496746600
Category : Biography & Autobiography
Languages : en
Pages : 253
Book Description
For readers of The Knowledge Gap, Race to the Bottom, and The Inequality Machine, education and equity strategist Brian Rashad Fuller sheds a stark light on America's public schools, the miseducation of students of color, and the action required to make tangible changes and reforms to a failing and racialized educational system. With a foreword from Harriet Tubman's great-grand nephew, Abdul Tubman. In a polarizing and racially divided America, what do children of color learn about themselves before they even go to school? How do they see themselves and is that image only exacerbated by spending twelve years in a public education system that perpetuates negative stereotypes? Brian Rashad Fuller personally knows that the impact of low expectations can be devastating, as proved by the “school to prison” pipeline that so many students have experienced. He aims to make a difference in this humanizing and very personal portrayal of what it means to be Black in America’s schools. As a Black man who has spent his life as a student and an educator, Brian shares his own story of navigating the world, overcoming his family struggles, and eventually entering an educational system that he believes is inherently racist, damaging, and disserving. He exposes the challenges Black students face in elite and predominantly white universities and spaces, dissects “Black exceptionalism” in the schooling experience, and offers a firsthand account of the emotional and psychological impact made by teachers, administrators, policies, practices, lessons, and student interactions. Most Americans are looking for answers on how to improve our education system—as illustrated by the critical race theory debate—but have not fully understood the lived Black experience, until now. With powerful insight into a thoroughly American institution, Brian offers present-day solutions, and liberating hope, for a centuries-long issue, as well as a galvanizing and radical step forward. It is a book essential to our challenging times.
