Book Description
Excerpt from Journal; American Society of Sugar Cane Technologists, Vol. 20: Florida and Louisiana Divisions; June 2000 Sugarcane stalks from each plot were mechanically harvested and piled in early December Of 1993 and 1994. Dried leaf material (crop and weed) was removed from the piles Of harvested stalks by burning prior to weighing the stalks to determine gross cane yields from the plant-cane crop of each experiment. A sample consisting of 15 harvested stalks selected at random was removed from each plot, weighed to determine average stalk weight, and then crushed in a three-roller mill. Theoretically recoverable sugar (trs) levels contained in the extracted juice were determined following analyses of the juice for its Brix (percent by weight of soluble solids) and pol (percent apparent sucrose by weight) contents using standard methods. Sugar yield represents the product of trs levels and gross cane yields. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. Book Description
Excerpt from American Society of Sugar Cane Technologists Journal, Vol. 16: Florida and Louisiana Division; June, 1996 In Louisiana, a sugarcane crop cycle usually consists of a fall-planted cr0p (plant-cane), which grows very little during winter and is harvested about 1 year after planting, and two ratoon crops. The region has a 7 to 9-month growing season that extends from early spring to late November or until harvest during the period from early October to late December. Consequently, sugarcane is relatively immature at the beginning of harvest and sucrose levels are usually low, generally increasing as the harvest season advances, depending on cultivar. Sucrose levels in juice and sugar yield are affected greatly by cultivar and by the growing season before and during harvest. A combination of high incidentlight, cool night temperatures, and drying soil prior to and during the harvest period retards vegetative growth and promotes sucrose accumulation (natural ripening) (legendre. Book Description
Excerpt from American Society of Sugar Cane Technologists Journal, Vol. 12: Florida and Luisiana Divisions, September, 1992 Field studies were conducted in 1989 at two locations in the sugarcane growing region of Louisiana. The Pointe Coupee Parish location was near Maringouin, LA in the northern part of the sugarcane growing area and the southern location was in Lafourche Parish near Thibodaux, la. The sugarcane cultivar 'cp 76-331 was used at the northern location while 'cp 70-321' was present at the southern location. At both locations, sugarcane was planted on raised beds spaced m apart and was a second-ratoon crop (third production year). Book Description
Excerpt from Proceedings, American Society of Sugar Cane Technologists, 1976-1979, Vol. 6 The poor flowering of S. Officinarum clones at the higher latitudes, including Louisiana, is a serious deterrent to using S. Officinarum in crosses outside the tropics. However, photoperiod treat ments used at Houma in 1974 to control the flowering of sugarcane (6) induced S. Officinarum 'fiji 40' to flower simultaneously with other breeding canes. S. Officinarum clones, thus induced to flower. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books.
