History of Joseph Smith
Author: Jared Sorensen
Publisher:
ISBN:
Category :
Languages : en
Pages : 439
Book Description
Joseph Smith made several attempts to write his history. The work published as the "History of Joseph Smith" in the Times and Seasons,is the most extensive account to be made publicly available. While parts or portions of this history have been used in various forms since it was first published in 1842, the full extent of this work has largely gone unnoticed. Joseph made this history in consequence of "many reports which have been put in circulation by evil designing persons". He felt "induced to write this history, so as to disabuse the public mind, and put all enquirers [sic] after truth into possession of the facts as they have transpired in relation both to myself and the church, so far as I have such facts in possession". When these words were first written in 1838, the need was great. I believe the need to allow Joseph to share this history to also be great today. It is the intent of this work to respect what Joseph did then and make this history more readily available to all inquirers after truth today. This book is an effort to take precisely what was put into print as the "History of Joseph Smith" in the Times and Seasons and make it available in a single volume. Effort has been made for this record to be true to what was published in the Times and Seasons as the "History of Joseph Smith" without adding to or taking away from that work. Researchers should defer to copies of the original Times and Seasons to resolve any differences.
