Book Description
Odisha, a land of varied cultural and geographical diversities provides shelter to people of varied socio-demographical backgrounds. Many primitive tribes with diverse needs also reside in the state. Some tribal groups are more disadvantageous in terms of geographical location, food procurement, survival skills and health status and are named as “Particularly Vulnerable Tribal Groups”. They are spanned over 17 different states and one union territory of India. The state of Odisha provides home to 13 such PVTGs. Most of these tribal groups have indigenous practices regarding treatment of disease posing risk to their survival. In an effort to address these issues, “Jiban Sampark” – Communication for life”, an effort to revamp health and nutrition of the PVTGs is undertaken by All India Institute of Medical Sciences in collaboration with UNICEF.I take immense pleasure to state that through this project, training would be provided to people of different sectors who would have a bearing on improving health and nutrition status of PVTGs. In the days to come, we hope to promote the health status and improvise health indicators in these remote and socially secluded communities through this path-breaking initiative.

Clearly You Are ESL
Author: Ranjani Murali
Publisher:
ISBN: 9780986065262
Category : Poetry
Languages : en
Pages : 73
Book Description
Poetry. Winner if the Editor's Choice Award. CLEARLY YOU ARE ESL by Ranjani Murali is a genre-bending collection of poems that playfully explores the hybrid postcolonial Englishes that exist within an Indian English context. The attempt of the poet is to diffuse both the simultaneous specificity and the vagueness of this linguistic experience (and register) using visual poems and syntactic experimentation. "These intellectually ambitious and surprising poems--some of them in the form of graphs and figures--investigate the politics of language, dating, and workplace etiquette," writes poet and professor Jennifer Atkinson. "This is a new and unforgettable voice--by turns witty, acerbic, compassionate, and comic." "I like this kind of poetry--it has how-to manuals, diagrams and words that are startling and perfect. Non-standardized 'Indian/South Indian' English is usually put on display for ridicule and I feel that many of these pieces capture the oft-overlooked aspects of the language that make it so extra-ordinary. One rarely finds it laid out like this--very honest and stripped down but in a humble way. To me, these poems unfold like a city--they are familiar, sad, quietly breathtaking."--Kuzhali Manickavel "This is a dazzling collection of lyric adventures and experiments. Born in South India and living in the U.S. since her twenties, Murali navigates the cross-currents of contemporary South Indian and Midwest American culture and language. She explores the ironies and conflicts of living and working in and between those worlds. These intellectually ambitious and surprising poems--some of them in the form of graphs and figures--investigate the politics of language, dating, and workplace etiquette. This is a new and unforgettable voice--by turns witty, acerbic, compassionate, and comic."--Jennifer Atkinson

The Country of First Boys and Other Essays
Author: Amartya Sen
Publisher: Oxford University Press, USA
ISBN: 9780199453252
Category : India
Languages : en
Pages : 0
Book Description
Time and again Amartya Sen, one of the polymaths of our times, has stirred our thoughts and world-views through his writings and speeches. Intrigued by the questions of social justice and welfare, he argues, in this work, some of the fundamental issues--poverty, hunger, education, globalization, freedom of speech, injustice, inequality, exclusion, exploitation--that we negotiate with in our day to day lives. With a passion and conviction masked by a gently persuasive style and characterised by an undogmatic engagement with differing points of view, Sen's The Country of First Boys asserts that public policy should swing sharply towards the poor, the illiterate, and those suffering from ill health and malnourishment. Written in non-technical and easy to understand language while at the same time relying on rigorous intellectual and academic analysis, this volume would open a window to the ideas of an internationally renowned Nobel laureate to a wide spectrum of readers.

Agricultural Finance in India
Author: K. Prabhakar Rajkumar
Publisher:
ISBN:
Category : Business & Economics
Languages : en
Pages : 256
Book Description
Agricultural production in India depends upon millions of small farmers. However, because of inadequate financial resources, many farmers are unable to receive improved seeds and fertilizers, nor introduce better methods and techniques. It is, therefore, of the utmost importance that the financial requirements of farmers are adequately met. The provision of sufficient and timely credit at fair rates of interest has to be considered as an integral part of agricultural development. However, assistance rendered by way of credit has to be related to specific items of productive work or of essential costs of cultivation. Set up in 1982, India's National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (NABARD) is the apex institution accredited with all matters concerning policy, planning, and operations in the field of credit for agriculture and other economic activities in rural areas in India. NABARD serves as an apex refinancing agency for the institutions providing investment and production credit in rural areas. This book explains the system of agricultural finance in India and it provides an in-depth analysis of the role of NABARD.

Book Description
Education is one of the fundamental factors of growth in every context. Education is a crucial investment in human and sustainable development and is impacted by the situation within which it occurs. Without considerable investment in human capital, no country can achieve sustainable economic growth. Student-centered learning environments need to add more active learning approaches to classroom teaching. The current education system in South Asia is characterized by limited access; poor quality and low standards; gender, social and economic inequities; and low levels of public investment. The demands of the twenty-first century are a status symbol, ingenuity, and incorporation of expertise at the global level, research, and logical and analytical thought. This book contains eleven chapters compiling state of the art studies on education systems and policies in south Asian countries. The first chapter presents a study that aims to compare the impact of flipped mode and the traditional mode of instruction. The second chapter is about a professional development program for beginning high school teachers. The program was designed after identifying, characterizing, and evaluating the professional training needs of beginning teachers, using quantitative and qualitative methodologies via interviews and surveys. Moreover, It emphasizes on engineering education in India: preparation of professional engineering educators; effective education in a college in Bangladesh; a different kind of teacher for a different kind of school; the issues and challenges of using multimedia at a district level, specialized girls' college in Bangladesh; continuing education for professional development in higher education teaching; remittances, school quality, and household education expenditures in Nepal; and assessment of clinical learning environment, supervision among nursing students, Hyderabad, Sindh, Pakistan. Lack of awareness and education regarding sustainability among students can impact their competence to incorporate sustainability into technology development. Thus, the development of student competence across the curriculum of technology education for sustainability is crucial. The book also aims to explore student competence development in technology education by investigating their awareness of sustainability and to investigate how much sustainability is infused across the technology education curriculum.
