Book Description
The story of Jacob gives me hope. Jacob is no less than a rogue. If Jacob were alive in the twenty-first century, he would be one of those ruthless entrepreneurs who would take advantage of their staff and pay them a pittance. He would outwit his competitors and pull every trick in the book. Jacob would be the JR Ewing. Jacob is well named as his name means 'Deceiver'. There is no depth he will not stoop to in his efforts to get ahead. He manipulates his entire family and then runs off when it gets too hot to stick around. Despite this less than desirable character, God has chosen Jacob, and throughout his life, God overlooks Jacob's weaknesses while he works on his character to make him a better person. Why does Jacob give me hope? Quite simply, if God can love, choose and accept a character like Jacob, then he will accept me, who has failed him continually for the past sixty years. The story of Jacob is the story of God's sovereignty and of God's faithfulness towards those he chooses. It is also the story of God's abundant blessings poured out on his people and even those associated with them. As we read the story of this lying, cheating, manipulating rogue, we will see God working out his plans, regardless of what any man plans. Jacob is the last of the patriarchs, and he fathers the twelve tribes of Israel who will be the defining leaders and division of the nation. As we work our way through this study, let us consider the weaknesses of Jacob and although it all worked out in the end, note that Jacob, at the end of his life, said his "days had been few and unpleasant". God can still work out his plans despite us, can still use us for his purposes, but if we fight against him, it will be unpleasant for us also.

Book Description
Jacob-Israel God's Man Of Faith And Power Loved by God and chosen while still in the womb, Jacob was born reaching out to claim the high calling of God on his life. His role in the Plan of Redemption was to father the nation through whom God would speak to a lost creation. It is time someone spoke a good word for Jacob-Israel, whose descendants changed the world! This book offers a refreshingly different view of this spiritual forefather of our faith. Over-emphasis on his morals has largely obscured his faith in God's promises which made him a channel of blessing to all people. Believers in every age who are used by God to further His Plan are, like Jacob, often misunderstood. An examination of his heart and motives explores the reasons why God's chosen instruments often suffer. Do we always reap what we sow? Are life's trials always the result of our personal sins? An avid Bible student from early youth, Frances developed a lifelong love of God's Word which has inspired her to write this book about her favorite Bible character. Frances lives in Springdale, AR near her 2 grown daughters; she also has a son in Houston.

Book Description
Jacob is a Bible study guide on the life of Jacob. He comes from a famous flawed family of faith: five generations with the hero Jacob in the middle. This book presents Jacob's story in 42 daily parts. You can read it all at once or study it one day at a time. The content comes from the book of Genesis.Jacob shows how an imperfect man of faith may be loved by God. Discover your possibilities in this six-week small group Bible study guide. This guide follows the choices of Jacob's family. How might you handle similar situations in your life? Each day has a setting summary from Jacob's life with the Scripture reference and an approximate date. The key verse leads to a discussion question. If short on time, read the key verse and question.Genesis describes in broad terms how people and the earth came into existence. God created them.In the early years, mankind enjoyed long lifespans. Before the Flood, people lived for centuries. You can read about that in Genesis 1-11. After God sent the Flood in the days of Noah, lifespans changed.Genesis 12-50 is a transition period during the five generations of Abraham, Isaac, Jacob, Joseph and his sons. Lifespans declined but not immediately.By the time of Moses (Exodus) and later David, typical lifespans were about 70 years with an upper end being about 120 years - much like it is today. The story of Jacob is found in Genesis 25-50. He lived in that ancient historical transition period of the patriarchs. Back then, men in their 60s and 70s appear to have had the strength and energy of today's middle-aged men in their 40s and 50s.Jacob, also called Israel, may refer to the nation in the Bible. This study guide looks at Jacob the man.In this study, you can discuss how you've handled the life choices that Jacob and his family faced. The advantage of doing an individual Bible study is that you can concentrate on private issues. The advantage of doing a group Bible study is that you progress more quickly in your walk of faith.God uses those around you to encourage you and to help you with changes you may wish to make. You may be the person God uses to help others.

Book Description
Jacob has often been propounded as a warning; Joseph as an exemplar. Despite this contrast, their lives are inextricably intertwined and have been given for our instruction and inspiration. In this commentary, two excellent Bible teachers have extracted the practical lessons and expounded them eloquently for our instruction. The sixth book in the Ritchie Character Series covers the lives of Jacob and Joseph. There are many important lessons to be learned from the accounts of Jacob and Joseph and these practical books will be of help to those wishing to study and learn from these characters. Jacob, patriarch, pilgrim, parent, Prince, and prophet: his life and history have been the theme of many sermons and books, his failures paraded before us as warnings of the "Jacob" in all of us. As we read his life we are reminded of the great principle of "sowing and reaping," the inviolable law of God. Thankfully, there is the occasional message we are privileged to hear which shows the development in the character of a child of God through patient moulding by God, and his eventual triumphant end. As we listen with amazement to God declaring Himself "The mighty God of Jacob" (Ps 132:5), we bow in wonder and worship before a God of such amazing grace. Most view the story of Joseph as the dominant feature of Genesis, but in reality, however, the life of Joseph is really intertwined with that of Jacob. But the story of Jacob attracts us all.
