Book Description
It was a simpler time as widower Jacob Ernst struggles to raise his two young sons, Nathan and Mead, on their modest farm. They've grown up listening to the nighttime songs of hounds in the pursuit of the wily ringtail. Chasing raccoon through darkened hills, Jacob teaches his sons the legends of their hometown and a deep respect for all woodland creatures. Hunting and the lessons taught keep the Ernst family together. And the brothers bond with their dogs-loyal to one another until the end. For this is Painted Post-a storied place where the lessons of life, love, and death play out beneath its mighty oaks. But worlds collide. Evil follows the Ernst family and their hounds into these mystical hills. The scourge of the illegal drug trade, coupled with the treachery of one of their own, leads to an inevitable showdown. Some will learn that not all of Painted Post's vivid tales are pure legend, and this rugged woodland will wield its own brutal justice. For in the darkest hollows, solid bonds are forged.

Book Description
Queer Studies and Education: An International Reader explores how the category queer, as a critical stance or set of perspectives, contributes to opportunities individually and collectively for advancing (queer) social justice within the context and concerns of schooling and education. The collection takes up this general goal by presenting a cross-section of international perspectives on queer studies in education to demonstrate commonalities, differences, uncertainties, or pluralities across a diverse range of national contexts and topics, drawing a heightened awareness of heterodominance and heteropatriarchy, and to conceptualize non-normative and non-essentialist imaginings for more inclusive educational environments. Collectively, the chapters critically engage with heteronormativity and normativity more generally as a political spectrum, over a broad range of formal and informal sites of education, and against a backdrop of critiques of liberalism and neoliberalism as the frameworks through which "achievable" social change and belonging are fostered, particularly within educational settings. Taken together, the chapters assembled in Queer Studies and Education invite researchers, scholars, educators, activists, and other cultural workers to examine the multiplicity of contemporary (international) work in queer studies and education with readers' interpretations of queer's deployment across the chapters forming the compass for which to arrive at fresh insights and forms of (queer) critical praxis.

Book Description
Question for you. What is Heart? Is it compassion? Courage? Determination? …Myles to Go, Book Three – Lessons and Truths, like its’ predecessors, …Myles to Go and Myles to Go, Beginnings explores how ‘Heart’ in its many forms affects the lives of Jacob Myles and family and friends. …Myles to Go, Book Three – Lessons and Truths continues the story of Brittany ‘Cookie’ Abernathy and Robert ‘Bobby’ Matthews and their quest for happiness in a world that frowns on their forbidden love. Book Three – Lessons and Truths also focuses on a young girl’s determination to use any means necessary to become a member of her school’s cheerleading squad; a Vietnam veteran’s courage to battle his demons; Savannah Myles’ unwavering spirit to keep her ancestors’ legacies alive; the compassion of a young husband in his quest to renew the love of his sick young wife; a black man’s defense of a Northern family harassed by Southern bigots; and the courage to let go of the love of your life for his/her own happiness. Lessons and Truths also introduces new characters: a beloved relative who re-enters the life of Carmen Hamilton; a classmate/nemesis who hampers Savannah’s efforts to enhance her school curriculum; a love interest for a hesitant and fearful Jocelyn Myles; Jacob Myles’ acerbic mother-in-law; and a World War II vet who remains perennially sunny despite his disabilities. Like …Myles to Go and …Myles to Go, Book Two – Beginnings, …Myles to Go, Book Three - Lessons and Truths provide a stepping stone to a myriad of topics: the horrors of war and its effects on returning soldiers; the scourge of performance drugs in the schools; postpartum depression and the complexities of childbirth; African American males’ aversion to therapy; the black man’s role in the military, interracial relationships, emotional baggage and so much more. All three novels show how issues of the past are deeply ingrained in our souls even today, and how African-Americans learn to live with them. Educators have used Book One in the classroom setting and have added it to their school curriculum. There are over three hundred historical and cultural references in all three novels – enough for a year’s worth of lesson plans. It’s sure to spark honest and open dialogue between educator and student. …Myles to Go, …Myles to Go, Book Two – Beginnings and …Myles to Go, Book Three – Lessons and Truths. It is the author’s belief that you, the reader will definitely be able to relate to the stories herein and see someone you know. If not yourself.

Allie and Jacob find themselves in a whirlwind of tensions, misunderstandings, humor, friendship, and the possibility of romance. They must also overcome speculation and gossip in the small town of Whitlow and the interference of others who want to cause disharmony in their already uncomfortable situation.

Book Description
[Includes 4 tables, 3 charts, 27 maps and 90 illustrations] Seizure of the Gilberts and Marshalls deals with amphibious warfare as waged by American forces against the Japanese-held atolls of the Central Pacific during World War II... The atoll operations described in this volume were amphibious from beginning to end. They were not simple seaborne hit-and-run raids of the Dieppe type. The objective was to secure the atolls as steppingstones to the next advance. The islands were relatively small, permitting continual naval and air support of the ground operations. Some outstanding examples of the co-ordination of fire support by artillery, naval gunfire, and air are found in this book. The advantages of simple plans and the disadvantages of the more complicated will stand out for the careful reader. The story of the capture of these atolls of Micronesia offers some of the best examples of combined operations that are available in the annals of modern war. Ground, sea, and air components were always present, and the effectiveness with which they were combined and co-ordinated accounts in large measure for the rapid success enjoyed in these instances by American arms. From the point of view of strategy, the significance of this volume lies in the fact that it tells the story of the beginnings of the drive across the Central Pacific toward the Japanese homeland. This concept of defeating Japan by pushing directly westward from Hawaii through the island bases of the mid-Pacific was traditional in American strategic thinking, but had never been put to test and was seriously challenged in some quarters. As is shown here, the test was first made in the campaigns against the Gilberts and Marshalls, the outcome was successful, and the experience gained was of inestimable value in planning for the subsequent conduct of the war in the Pacific.
