Languages : en
Pages : 32
Book Description
Excerpt from Speeding Up Flowering in the Daffodil and the Bulbous Iris It should be realized that Bellingham-grown iris bulbs are late ma turing; Carolina or Virginia. Grown stocks can be brought into flower earlier. Commercial growers in the vicinity of Wilmington, have cut flowers from cold-stored Wedgewood bulbs the end of the first week in November. They use normal storage through July, 50° in August, and pot in early September. The humidity of the chamber for cold treating of bulbous iris is of even more importance than for the treatment of daffodils. The con trol of humidity entails an additional expense which is not commonly provided in commercial cold-storage establishments. However, the matter is not so difficult to arrange, for all that is necessary is to keep the bulbs from rooting. Book Description
Excerpt from Choice Daffodils and Bearded Iris Direct From Grower to You: Puget Sound Grown Bulbs of Superior Merit Perhaps no other indication of spring gives us quite the delicious thrill as the first peeping shoots of the daffo dils in some sheltered part of the garden. The uplifted slender green spears standing amidst the ice and snow are usually the first sign that winter is about gone. The Daffodils are too easily grown to call forth the glow ing enthusiasm to which they are justly entitled. They ask for no attendants, require no special culture and yet grow on year after year, blooming in profusion and increasing in beauty and numbers, as well as value.
