Book Description
Excerpt from Investigation of the Platinum Metals: IV. Determination of Iridium in Platinum Alloys by the Method of Fusion With Lead The determination of iridium in platinum alloys by the method Of fusion with lead was devised by Deville and Stas 2 about 50 years ago. Since that time no critical investigation Of the method has been made to determine its reliability and accuracy. This method is the one most commonly used for the determination of iridium. As iridium alloys are now widely used commercially, it is im portant that a precise and dependable method for the analytical determination Of iridium be known. Consequently, a critical study Of the Deville and Stas method was undertaken at the Eu reau Of Standards as the first of a series Of investigations into the analytical methods for the metals Of the platinum group. The range per cent to 20 per cent was chosen for investigation. The lower limit represents platinum of commercial purity, while alloys containing a proportion Of iridium greater than 20 per cent are seldom used commercially. Book Description
The results of an experimental study to explore the capabilities and limitations of thin Mo-0.5Ti molybdenum-alloy sheet for structural applications at high temperatures are presented. Evaluation tests at temperatures ranging from room temperature, to 3000 F were made on resistance-welded corrugated-core sandwiches that were coated with a commercially available oxidation resistant coating known as W-2 and on coated oxidation and tensile specimens. The performance of the corrugated-core sandwiches in compressive strength and static oxidation tests, tensile properties of the coated molybdenum sheet, and the life of the coated specimens in static oxidation tests are given. A description of the equipment and procedures utilized in performing the evaluation tests is included.

Book Description
The polygonization process of molybdenum and molybdenum alloys was investigated and the conditions of polygonization and the qualitative laws governing its development explored by applying the methods of metallography and electron microscopy. The results of the investigation verified the inhibiting effect of polygonization on the recrystallization process. At the same time, by measurement of hardness and elastic limit. The effects of polygonization on the mechanical properties of molybdenum and molybdenum alloys was investigated. The results indicate that the polygonal structure greatly improves these properties. Book Description
International Series of Monographs in Analytical Chemistry, Volume 47: Analytical Chemistry of Molybdenum and Tungsten describes the chemical and instrumental methods of analysis of molybdenum and tungsten. This book is composed of 15 chapters that particularly consider detailed methods for determining these metals in typical samples and their alloys by both classical and modern techniques. The opening chapters discuss the history, occurrence, physico-chemical properties, and applications of molybdenum and tungsten. The succeeding chapters deal with the metals’ sampling, decomposition, separation, and qualitative detection. Considerable chapters are devoted to various chemical and instrumental methods for their analysis, including gravimetry, titrimetry, colorimetry, polarography, amperometry, coulometry, emission and atomic absorption spectroscopy, X-ray spectrophotometry, mass spectrometry, and radiochemical methods. The concluding chapter examines the determination of impurities and alloying elements. This book will prove useful to analytical and inorganic chemists, as well as analytical and inorganic chemistry students.
