Book Description
Billie Alvarez is your average punk rock loving high school senior who just wants to hang out with her best friend, Rex, and get her ex-girlfriend back. In a half-baked attempt to impress her by auditioning for the lead part in the school musical, Billie gets turned down because she’s a girl trying out for a traditionally male part. When her online rant about the school being homophobic goes viral, she must navigate her newfound fame along with the typical drama that comes with getting through high school. Between rehearsals, trying to get her band back together and an endless onslaught of online admirers, Billie must decide what’s important to her. Is it the fleeting happiness of getting attention online? Figuring out what she wants to do after high school? Or getting her ex back? Then there’s her co-star in the school play, who’s getting much more interesting now that they’re spending more time rehearsing together.

Praise for Internet Famous: "An enjoyable, fast-paced read to which teens will relate because of the social media–influenced format."—School Library Journal "There is much to enjoy here.... partially told through blog posts, texts, and Snapchats. Book Description
In this "laugh-out-loud funny” book (Hank Green, New York Times bestselling author), social media star and comedian Josh Sundquist takes readers on his hilarious journey to the fringes of viral stardom to discover if it’s possible to be both very famous and very happy As a semi-famous internet creator, Josh Sundquist knows what it's like to chase fame, but he also knows that more fame usually means more stress. So he set out on a pseudo-scientific investigation to find out if there is any way for fame and happiness to overlap. He attempts to define the word “fame”—hint: it's harder than you'd think. He turns back time to identify the first facially-recognizable celebrity (you might know his former BFF Brutus). He digs into the numbers to debunk urban legends associated with stardom (ever heard of the 27 Club?). He talks to other semi-famous people (from K-pop sensations to former child stars) and asks them: Is this fame thing making you happy? If not, why are you doing it? If so, what's your secret? All while recounting funny stories about his own cringy fame-seeking (like his many attempts, and failures, to get onto MTV). Packed with playful diagrams, fascinating insights from celebrities, and embarrassing truths from Josh’s experience with semi-fame, this is a must-read for anyone who has ever dreamed of becoming famous…or at least going viral on TikTok.

Book Description
In THE INTERNET AS A GAME, Jill Anne Morris proposes that by defining internet arguments as games, we can analyze ad hominem and ad baculum arguments coming from online mobs and trolls using procedural rhetoric. Building upon and extending Ian Bogost's definition of procedural rhetoric and Jesper Juul's definition of games, Morris extends the usage of the term into human systems and groups that have proceduralized their arguments online. By studying the development of online adhocracies such as 4Chan, Anonymous, and even Reddit during their early development (roughly 2006 to 2014), Morris shows how these groups have proceduralized rhetoric so that thousands of group members can ìspeakî with a single voice and singular name that they call "anonymous." Morris examines these techniques to reveal their function and purpose as rhetoric. Understanding how internet arguments work can also positively affect pedagogy, especially now as social media and memes have been used to influence national elections, our views of the news, and our views of each other. Can we continue to teach only traditional rhetoric in classrooms when students will face arhetorical tropes and logic in their personal and professional lives? THE INTERNET AS A GAME shows why the stakes are high and the answer to this question is "no."
