Le travail presente dans cette these concerne l'analyse de la dynamique d'un laser a fibre dopee au neodyme, emettant un rayonnement fortement multimode a 1080 nm. Les etudes experimentales ont montre que la dynamique du laser est dominee par des phenomenes de polarisation et nous ont conduits a elaborer un modele simple de laser a deux modes. Le bon accord entre les resultats numeriques et experimentaux nous amene a conclure que la dynamique du laser resulte d'un comportement collectif des nombreux modes oscillant selon chaque etat propre de polarisation. La seconde partie est consacree a l'elaboration d'outils permettant la stabilisation et la caracterisation d'etats instables du laser. Dans un premier temps, la stabilisation de l'etat stationnaire instable apparaissant en regime d'oscillations spontanees nous a permis d'obtenir des informations sur la position du point fixe et la dynamique dans son voisinage. En ce qui concerne les orbites periodiques instables, la methode mise au point a permis de stabiliser, mais egalement de suivre des orbites periodiques lorsqu'un parametre de controle varie. Experimentalement, la methode utilisee s'avere egalement efficace pour l'etude de la dynamique locale dans le voisinage des orbites instables et pour la localisation des bifurcations d'ou elles proviennent
