Book Description
This review of literature includes an introduction on the origin of the olive tree and lists 116 species of insects and 30 species of mites known to infest it. It treats the geographical distribution, host plants, feeding habits, voltinism and seasonal history of 34 species of phytophagous insects as well as of 7 species of mites. Most of these are monophagous or oligophagous and closely associated with the olive tree. Of the species covered, 16 are Homoptera, one Hemiptera, one Thysanoptera, five Coleoptera, four Diptera, seven Lepidoptera, six Eriophyoidea and one Tetranychoidea. The review shows that all species, except one, have a seasonal dormancy and for most of them diapause is certain or reasonably suspected to occur. Seasonal displacement does occur in a number of species, especially shortly before or after dormancy. Differences of opinion on seasonal history between authors are pointed out and conclusions drawn based on the most convincing papers. Suggestions are made for further research on important, yet neglected aspects of the life history of olive arthropods.

Book Description
This book is an up-to-date and comprehensive reference covering pest management in organic farming in major crops of the world. General introductory chapters explore the management of crops to prevent pest outbreaks, plant protection tools in organic farming, and natural enemies and pest control. The remaining chapters are crop-based and discuss geographic distribution, economic importance and key pests. For each pest the fundamental aspects of its bio-ecology and the various methods of control are presented. Understanding of the scientific content is facilitated with practical advice, tables and diagrams, helping users to apply the theories and recommendations. This is an essential resource for researchers and extension workers in crop protection, integrated pest management and biocontrol, and organic farming systems.

Book Description
This book offers comprehensive coverage of all manifestations of resistance in combating infectious diseases and explores advances in antimicrobial resistance in agriculture and their applications in the fight against microbes. It discusses and compares biological, biochemical, and structural aspects of resistance and its evolution. This is a comprehensive tool covering all manifestations of antimicrobial resistance and microbial resistance genes. In addition, it also provides a variety of photographs, diagrams, and tables to help illustrate the material. Novel strategies to combat antimicrobial resistance are also described, emphasizing collaborative measures of control. The underlining molecular mechanisms, which depend not only on the microbe but on the specific drug (target) molecule, are highly diverse and are covered in great detail. Students, researchers, scientists, practitioners, academics, computational biologists, stakeholders, and policymakers can benefit from using Antimicrobial Resistance in Agriculture and its Consequences as a resource that addresses microbial biotechnology, microbiology, ethnopharmacology, toxicology, medicinal plant products, and all disciplines related to antimicrobial research. Features of the book: Covers antimicrobial resistance in agriculture with up-to-date research Includes recent references on each plausible antimicrobial resistance in agriculture Details the possible spread of antibiotic resistance bacteria from animals to humans Provides several perspectives in the resistance flux with modern agricultural practices Describes the public health impact of the use of antibiotics in agriculture Presents cutting-edge research on epigenetics, nanotechnology, and emergent antimicrobial technologies Outlines recent laws and regulatory guidelines in the federal agency, responsibility, and authority

Book Description
This is a textbook providing basic data about the crop pests and the damage they inflict throughout the tropics and sub-tropics. Each major pest is illustrated by either a line drawing or a photograph, and sometimes the damage can also be seen. A world distribution map is provided for each species. Control measures tend to be general rather than very specific. Most of the pests are insects and mites, but some nematodes, molluscs, birds and mammals are included.

Book Description
This major work presents the first comprehensive survey on entomological studies in Iran from prehistoric periods up to modern times. This concise collection and excerpts from the literature are complemented by over 130 color figures of superb quality showing insects and their habitats. Volume 1 Faunal Studies concentrates on the systematic taxonomy of Iranian insects. It also lists all members of Rhopalocera (butterflies) and four families of Heterocera (moths). An introductory chapter is reserved for basic information on the geography, vegetation and climate of Iran. Volume 2 Applied Entomology starts with a chapter on the history of entomology in Iran until current times. Several chapters cover agricultural aspects of entomology, such as destructive insects, biological control or cultivars exhibiting resistance to insect pests. Other chapters are on medical entomology, e.g. mosquito-, sandfly- or flea-borne diseases and human myiasis.
