Author: D. L. Kepert
Publisher: Springer Science & Business Media
ISBN: 3642680461

Languages : en
Pages : 239
Book Description
Molecular stereochemistry is a fundamental aspect of all areas of chemistry. It is especially important in inorganic chemistry where the coordination numbers are variable and occasionally quite high. The present book evolved naturally from a series of articles written by Professor Kepert for Progre88 in Inorganic Ohemi8try, elucida ting aspects of the stereochemistry of inorganic compounds of co ordination numbers 4-12. In the present volume, Professor Kepert has added new sections and synthesized these individual chapters into a unified treatment, updating his references when necessary to the most recent contributions in the literature, and inter weaving the various themes as deemed appropriate. The result is a major contribution, describing the stereochemistry of coordi nation compounds having both unidentate and multidentate ligands. The viability of the repulsion approach to stereochemistry is tested to the limit in this treatise and shown to be an extremely good way of rationalizing a diverse body of data.

Topics in Inorganic and Organometallic Stereochemistry
Author: Gregory L. Geoffroy
Publisher: John Wiley & Sons
ISBN: 0470147431
Category : Science
Languages : en
Pages : 366
Book Description
This volume is devoted entirely to inorganic and organometallic stereochemical subjects. Discusses the systematic notations that have been developed to satisfy the needs for a rational and systematic stereochemical nomenclature. Reviews the stereochemical aspects of the changes of bonding at carbon centers induced by metals, either catalytically or stoiciometrically. Also reviews the major achievements in current stereochemical research—the synthesis of asymmetric compounds mediated by transition metals. Discusses the structures of transition metal carbonyl clusters, summarizing recent progress in this expanding area and providing a semiquantitative rationalization of the structures for these clusters.

Introduction to Stereochemistry
Author: Andrew Clark
Publisher: Royal Society of Chemistry
ISBN: 1839164131
Category : Science
Languages : en
Pages : 201
Book Description
CHEMISTRY STUDENT GUIDES. GUIDED BY STUDENTS Why did the drug thalidomide cause birth defects? What is the chemical difference between sucrose and lactose in your food? Stereochemistry holds the answer and is essential to the understanding of the chemistry of life. Stereochemistry is an important concept that often causes confusion amongst students when they learn it for the first time. Unlike most other areas of chemistry, it requires the chemist to visualise molecules in 3D, which can be difficult. In this book we deal with tricky concepts like conformation and configuration, how to represent them accurately and how to use the correct terms to describe them in both organic and inorganic chemistry. We involved students in the writing process to ensure we deal with areas that you find difficult, in an understandable language. With problems designed to focus on common errors and misconceptions, real life examples, and practical hands-on exercises coupled with visualisation tips, our intention is to give you the tools to become confident in stererochemistry. Complementing mainstream organic textbooks, or self-study, this book is for anyone who has struggled with describing alkenes as E or Z, assigning R and S absolute configurations, drawing Newman projections or chair representations of cyclohexanes, axial chirality, understanding the stereochemistry of octahedral metal complexes and indeed explaining complexities observed in NMR spectra. Chemistry Student Guides are written with current students involved at every stage, guiding the books towards the most challenging aspects of the topic. Student co-authors for Introduction to Stereochemistry are Caroline Akamune, Michael Lloyd and Matthew Taylor.

Stereochemistry of Organometallic and Inorganic Compounds
Author: Bozzano G Luisa
Publisher: Elsevier
ISBN: 0444597328
Category : Science
Languages : en
Pages : 395
Book Description
The authors of this fourth volume in the series have reviewed the making and breaking of chemical bonds in a sophisticated manner. In particular, new pressures brought about by environmental concerns, larger demands for the medical and pharmaceutical sectors and economics of the market place are forcing us into demanding greater stereochemical control and better product yields for chemical reactions capable of producing useful products. The chapters are written by leading experts in this area and give excellent overviews of the strengths and weaknesses of the various methodologies. In Chapter 1 newer discoveries in such tried and true methods of C-C bond formation as alkylations and aldol reactions of metal enolates are reviewed. The author of Chapter 2 discusses the ability of ab-initio methods to justify the results of empirical observations in the field of transition metal derivatives of small molecules such as N2, CO2 and similar small molecules. Having established the strengths and weaknesses of the various approaches to such theoretical calculations, a more interesting approach to these methods is pursued, namely, their ability to predict, in those areas in which they are particularly strong and reliable, chemical and stereochemical events and/or results in advance of experiments, later carried out in the laboratory. Finally, Chapter 3 reviews the stereochemical results of electron transfer reactions in mononuclear copper compounds.

Basic Concepts in Organic Stereochemistry
Author: Sunil Kumar Talapatra
Publisher: Springer Nature
ISBN: 3030959902
Category : Science
Languages : en
Pages : 266
Book Description
This book discusses essential stereochemical concepts associated with organic molecules (natural or synthetic), as reflected in the course of their many reactions, their mechanisms, their asymmetric synthesis, biosynthesis, and biological activities. This treatise provides useful insights and understanding of the chiral/achiral designations (nomenclatures), the stereochemical features, and related properties of the natural and synthetic products. Without having an adequate knowledge of stereochemical concepts, it will not be possible to understand and appreciate the stereochemistry of natural or synthetic products. Thus, essential static and dynamic aspects of stereochemistry with sufficient illustrative examples along with discussions are presented. The structure of the monograph allows for easy selection of separate topics for reading and teaching. This book will also provide an idea of basic stereochemical concepts, as applied to organic molecules in general as well as to organic ligands in coordination complexes, and will, therefore, be valuable resources to teachers and students of advanced undergraduates and post-graduates, researchers, and professionals.
