Book Description
An important part of inorganic chemistry is the study of the behaviour of chemical elements and their compounds. If this behaviour is to be explained with any confidence, it needs first to be described in quantitative language. Thermodynamics provides such a language, and Dr Johnson's 1982 book is concerned with the theoretical explanations that become possible after the translation into thermodynamic language has taken place. This book will continue to be of interest to advanced undergraduate and postgraduate students of chemistry, as well as teachers of chemistry in both schools and universities.

Book Description
Chemical Thermodynamics and Statistical Aspects: Questions to Ask in Fundamentals and Principles covers a full range of topics in macroscopic and statistical thermodynamics. Every step in the book is compiled with sharp and precise attention to detail. Derivations cover fundamental relationships and reinforce and extend the knowledge gained form an earlier exposure to thermodynamics. The book is filled with all kinds of physics processes, a variety of quantum mechanics, and calculus problems involving timely mathematical functions. Special emphases is given to fundamental concepts and their chemical interpretations, which are essential to understanding molecular formation and reaction mechanism. This book will be a useful reference source for undergraduates and postgraduates taking courses in chemistry, students in chemical engineering, and those in the materials sciences. It will also be of value to research workers who would like an introduction to the essential principles of physical chemistry. Includes detailed solutions with the necessary mathematical techniques provided for every problem Addresses problems incorporating a variety of types of chemical and physical data to illustrate the interdependence of issues Includes a "Questions and Answers" feature which differentiates this book from competing books in the field

Book Description
This edition of Thermodynamics is a thoroughly revised, streamlined, and cor rected version of the book of the same title, first published in 1975. It is intended for students, practicing engineers, and specialists in materials sciences, metallur gical engineering, chemical engineering, chemistry, electrochemistry, and related fields. The present edition contains many additional numerical examples and prob lems. Greater emphasis is put on the application of thermodynamics to chemical, materials, and metallurgical problems. The SI system has been used through out the textbook. In addition, a floppy disk for chemical equilibrium calculations is enclosed inside the back cover. It contains the data for the elements, oxides, halides, sulfides, and other inorganic compounds. The subject material presented in chapters III to XIV formed the basis of a thermodynamics course offered by one of the authors (R.G. Reddy) for the last 14 years at the University of Nevada, Reno. The subject matter in this book is based on a minimum number of laws, axioms, and postulates. This procedure avoids unnecessary repetitions, often encountered in books based on historical sequence of development in thermodynamics. For example, the Clapeyron equation, the van't Hoff equation, and the Nernst distribution law all refer to the Gibbs energy changes of relevant processes, and they need not be presented as radically different relationships.

Book Description
This elegant book provides a student-friendly introduction to the subject of physical chemistry. It is by the author of the very successful Basic Chemical Thermodynamics and is written in the same well-received popular style. It is concise and more compact than standard textbooks on the subject and emphasises the two important topics underpinning the subject: quantum mechanics and the second law of thermodynamics. Both topics are challenging to students because they focus on uncertainty and probability. The book explains these fundamental concepts clearly and shows how they offer the key to understanding a wide range of chemical phenomena including atomic and molecular spectra, the structure and properties of solids, liquids and gases, chemical equilibrium and the rates of chemical reactions. This revised edition has enabled improvements and corrections to be made.

Book Description
This book provides a modern and easy-to-understand introduction to the chemical equilibria in solutions. It focuses on aqueous solutions, but also addresses non-aqueous solutions, covering acid–base, complex, precipitation and redox equilibria. The theory behind these and the resulting knowledge for experimental work build the foundations of analytical chemistry. They are also of essential importance for all solution reactions in environmental chemistry, biochemistry and geochemistry as well as pharmaceutics and medicine. Each chapter and section highlights the main aspects, providing examples in separate boxes. Questions and answers are included to facilitate understanding, while the numerous literature references allow students to easily expand their studies.
