Plastic Deformation in Nanocrystalline Materials
Author: Mikhail Gutkin
Publisher: Springer Science & Business Media
ISBN: 366209374X
Category : Technology & Engineering
Languages : en
Pages : 196
Book Description
It seems there is no special need to comment on the term 'nanostructure' now, when one often meets the 'nano' words not only in scientific journals but even in newspapers. Moreover, today they are even to be heard in TV and radio programmes. In academic science, where the terms 'nanostructure' and 'nan otechnology' have been extremely popular since the early 1990s, they have been successfully extended to the sphere of economics and business, and now to politics. This is quite natural because nanostructures and nanotechnolo gies will surely serve as a basis for the most advanced and highest technology production in the nearest and probably also the remote future. Hence, the struggle to create and occupy its markets is already under way. In this respect, it is of great interest to review data on the dynamics of U. S. Federal Goverment expenditure for nanotechnology [1,2]. In the fiscal years 1997 and 2002, expenditure was approximately US$116 and US$ 697 million, respectively. In the fiscal year 2004, the President's request for US federal in vestment in nanoscale science, engineering and technology is about US$ 849 million [2]. The indicative budget allocated to the Thematic Priority enti tled 'Nanotechnologies and nanosciences, knowledge-based multifunctional materials and new production processes and devices' for the duration 2002- 2006 of the sixth EU Framework Programme for Research and Technological Development is EUR 1300 million [3].

Unified Constitutive Laws of Plastic Deformation
Author: A. S. Krausz
Publisher: Elsevier
ISBN: 008054343X
Category : Technology & Engineering
Languages : en
Pages : 479
Book Description
High-technology industries using plastic deformation demand soundly-based economical decisions in manufacturing design and product testing, and the unified constitutive laws of plastic deformation give researchers aguideline to use in making these decisions. This book provides extensive guidance in low cost manufacturing without the loss of product quality. Each highly detailed chapter of Unified Constitutive Laws of Plastic Deformation focuses on a distinct set of defining equations. Topics covered include anisotropic and viscoplastic flow, and the overall kinetics and thermodynamics of deformation. This important book deals with a prime topic in materials science and engineering, and will be of great use toboth researchers and graduate students. - Describes the theory and applications of the constitutive law of plastic deformation for materials testing - Examines the constitutive law of plastic deformation as it applies to process and product design - Includes a program on disk for the determination and development of the constitutive law of plastic deformation - Considers economical design and testing methods

Testing of the Plastic Deformation of Metals
Author: T. W. Clyne
Publisher: Cambridge University Press
ISBN: 1108950299
Category : Technology & Engineering
Languages : en
Pages : 298
Book Description
Discover a novel, self-contained approach to an important technical area, providing both theoretical background and practical details. Coverage includes mechanics and physical metallurgy, as well as study of both established and novel procedures such as indentation plastometry. Numerical simulation (FEM modelling) is explored thoroughly, and issues of scale are discussed in depth. Discusses procedures designed to explore plasticity under various conditions, and relates sample responses to deformation mechanisms, including microstructural effects. Features references throughout to industrial processing and component usage conditions, to a wide range of metallic alloys, and to effects of residual stresses, anisotropy and inhomogeneity within samples. A perfect tool for materials scientists, engineers and researchers involved in mechanical testing (of metals), and those involved in the development of novel materials and components.

Deformation-Based Processing of Materials
Author: Heng Li
Publisher: Elsevier
ISBN: 0128143827
Category : Technology & Engineering
Languages : en
Pages : 352
Book Description
Deformation Based Processing of Materials: Behavior, Performance, Modeling and Control focuses on deformation based process behaviors and process performance in terms of the quality of the needed shape, geometries, and the requested properties of the deformed products. In addition, modelling and simulation is covered to create an in-depth and epistemological understanding of the process. Other topics discussed include ways to efficiently reduce or avoid defects and effectively improve the quality of deformed parts. The book is ideal as a technical document, but also serves as scientific literature for engineers, scientists, academics, research students and management professionals involved in deformation based materials processing. - Covers process behaviors, such as non-uniform deformation, unstable deformation, material flow phenomena, and process performance - Includes modelling and simulation of the entire deformation process - Looks at control of the preferred deformation, undesirable material flow, avoidance and reduction of defects, and improving the dimensional accuracy, surface quality and microstructure construction of the produced products
