Advances in Simulation of Wing and Nacelle Stall
Author: Rolf Radespiel
Publisher: Springer
ISBN: 3319211277
Category : Technology & Engineering
Languages : en
Pages : 404
Book Description
The book reports on advanced solutions to the problem of simulating wing and nacelle stall, as presented and discussed by internationally recognized researchers at the Closing Symposium of the DFG Research Unit FOR 1066. Reliable simulations of flow separation on airfoils, wings and powered engine nacelles at high Reynolds numbers represent great challenges in defining suitable mathematical models, computing numerically accurate solutions and providing comprehensive experimental data for the validation of numerical simulations. Additional problems arise from the need to consider airframe-engine interactions and inhomogeneous onset flow conditions, as real aircraft operate in atmospheric environments with often-large distortions. The findings of fundamental and applied research into these and other related issues are reported in detail in this book, which targets all readers, academics and professionals alike, interested in the development of advanced computational fluid dynamics modeling for the simulation of complex aircraft flows with flow separation.

Inlet Distortion Generation for a Transonic Compressor
Author: Ioannis Papamarkos
Publisher:
ISBN: 9781423586579
Category :
Languages : en
Pages : 72
Book Description
A single-stage transonic research compressor and test rig are to be used to obtain data on the effect of inlet flow distortion on compressor (and therefore engine) stall. Auxiliary injection was examined as a technique for generating distortion in inlet stagnation pressure, or temperature, or to simulate the more complex effects of engine, steam ingestion from a catapult launch. Engineering analyses were developed and programmed in EES to relate inlet conditions to the compressor characteristics, for both pressure and temperature distortion. An injection duct area of 8% was selected to limit the required heater power. A CFD analysis was carried out to predict the compressor inlet flow field and hence position the injection duct exit. It was found that a broad range of distortion parameters could be generated by simply ducting (and heating) atmospheric air (or steam) through and auxiliary inlet throttle valve.

Radial Flow Turbocompressors
Author: Michael Casey
Publisher: Cambridge University Press
ISBN: 1108416675
Category : Science
Languages : en
Pages : 789
Book Description
An introduction to the theory and engineering practice that underpins the component design and analysis of radial flow turbocompressors. Drawing upon an extensive theoretical background and years of practical experience, the authors provide descriptions of applications, concepts, component design, analysis tools, performance maps, flow stability, and structural integrity, with illustrative examples. Features wide coverage of all types of radial compressor over many applications unified by the consistent use of dimensional analysis. Discusses the methods needed to analyse the performance, flow, and mechanical integrity that underpin the design of efficient centrifugal compressors with good flow range and stability. Includes explanation of the design of all radial compressor components, including inlet guide vanes, impellers, diffusers, volutes, return channels, de-swirl vanes and side-streams. Suitable as a reference for advanced students of turbomachinery, and a perfect tool for practising mechanical and aerospace engineers already within the field and those just entering it.
