Book Description
Indiscretions of Archie is a comic novel adapted from a set of short stories serialized in the Strand magazine between March 1920 and February 1921 in the United Kingdom and between May 1920 and February 1921 in Cosmopolitan in the United States. The novel was first published in the United Kingdom on February 14, 1921 by Herbert Jenkins and in the United States on July 15, 1921 by George H. Doran. The eponymous Archie is Archibald Moffam, a gaffe-prone but affable Englishman who has found himself living in New York City after the end of the First World War, in which he had served with distinction. After a whirlwind romance Archie marries Lucille, the daughter of wealthy hotel owner and art collector Daniel Brewster. Many of the ensuing events revolve around Archie’s attempts to win favor with his new father-in-law. This book is part of the Standard Ebooks project, which produces free public domain ebooks.

Book Description
This episodic novel tells the story of Archibald Moffam, a perennially down-on-his-luck character who meets with misfortune as he tries to navigate the landmines of marriage, family relationships, and the working life. Told with the kind of sparkling wit only P.G. Wodehouse can muster, Indiscretions of Archie is enough to make anyone feel better about their own mishaps, while providing plenty of belly laughs along the way.

"What I mean is, I can't understand why you should have married a blighter like me." Lucille's eyes opened. She squeezed his hand. "Why, you're the most wonderful thing in the world, precious!-- Surely you know that?" "Absolutely escaped my notice. Are you sure?" "Of course I'm sure! You wonder-child! Nobody could see you without loving you!" Archie heaved an ecstatic sigh. Then a thought crossed his mind. It was a thought which frequently came to mar his bliss. "I say, I wonder if your father will think that!" "Of course he will!" "We rather sprung this, as it were, on the old lad," said Archie dubiously. "What sort of a man IS your father?" "Father's a darling, too." "Rummy thing he should own that hotel," said Archie. "I had a frightful row with a blighter of a manager there just before I left for
