Book Description
From 1970 to 1977 a major project to uncover source material for students of contemporary British history and politics was undertaken at the British Library of Political and Economic Science. Fiananced by the Social Science Research Council, and under the direction of Dr Chris Cook, this project has attempted a unique and systematic operation to locate, and then to make readily available, those archives that provide the indispensable source material for the contemporary historian. This volume (the fifth in the series) provides a guide to the papers of propagandists who were influential in British public life. Included in this volume are the papers of such persons as newspaper editors, leading economists, social reformers, socialist thinkers, trade unionists, industrialists and a variety of theologians and philanthropists. In all, this volume not only completes the findings of the project but opens up the archive sources of a hitherto neglected area of research into contemporary social and political history.

Book Description
This volume details the process of, and difficulties in, assembling the data: the source notes for every column in each sub-file for each of the Excel files A-P; with some fuller explanation of the heading; and particular notes for particular years in each column. There are also explanations, calculations and reasoning for particular estimates and how totals were arrived at. The reasoning for some totals and the inclusion of certain categories may be contested. I welcome such disagreements, suggestions of sources which I may have missed, and correction of straightforward mistakes. This is a workbook for future scholars to peruse and amend. I will provide amendments as necessary. The painstaking research initially involved going through the British Parliamentary Papers (BPP) from 1830, item by item, and reconstructing 'country-specific estimates from the available empirical evidence'. The second part of this volume provides a guide to what was considered, even if not used, 1830-1920 in the British Parliamentary Papers. The primary other sources emerged from this process, particularly for the first phase and the first half of the second phase. The data to which the sources in this work refer, and which are the statistical basis of the first volume, "e;The Key to all Mythologies"e; are contained in the following website: www.thekeytoallmythologies.com

Book Description
This book is a research guide and bibliography of Parliamentary material, including the Old Scottish Parliament and the Old Irish Parliament, relating to patents and inventions from the early seventeenth century to 1976. It chronicles the entire history of a purely British patent law before the coming into force of the European Patent Convention under the Patents Act 1977. It provides a comprehensive record of every Act, Bill, Parliamentary paper, report, petition and recorded debate or Parliamentary question on patent law during the period. The work will be an essential resource for scholars and researchers in intellectual property law, the history of technology, and legal and economic history.

Book Description
Since the beginnings of the oil industry, production activity has been governed by the 'law of capture,' dictating that one owns the oil recovered from one's property even if it has migrated from under neighboring land. This 'finders keepers' principle has been excoriated by foreign critics as a 'law of the jungle' and identified by American commentators as the root cause of the enormous waste of oil and gas resulting from U.S. production methods in the first half of the 20th century. Yet while in almost every other country the law of capture is today of marginal significance, it continues in.
