Lorca's Drawings and Poems focuses on the act of reading Lorca's drawn or written texts and how the reading of one genre can inform the reading of another. Throughout the study, poetry and drawings from every period of Lorca's career are examined. Selected drawings are interpreted; next, poems contemporary to those drawings are analyzed in their light. In chapter 1, a common poetics is extracted from Lorca's comments about his drawings and writing and placed in the context of the literary and artistic movements of his day. The evolution of the literary criticism that examines Lorca's drawings is traced and reviewed. Lorca's texts are examined from varying perspectives in the chapters that follow. In chapter 2, drawings and poems from 1927 to 1928 are analyzed in light of Lorca's participations in artistic and literary movements during those years. Texts from each period of Lorca's work are read in chapter 3 in a study of Lorca's employment of space and his depiction of setting and subject in his drawings and poems. Such a chronological approach allows the reading of Lorca's texts to reveal the evolution of his aesthetics as well as to identify the imagery and techniques that remained consistent throughout his career.

Spanish Poetry of the Grupo Poético de 1927 is an anthology of poems by members of Grupo Poético de 1927, an association of poets who sought to detach poetry from non-poetic elements such as narrative, anecdote, political or social preoccupations, or didacticism. Seven poets are represented: Pedro Salinas, Jorge Guillén, Gerardo Diego, Federico García Lorca, Vicente Aleixandre, Rafael Alberti, and Luis Cernuda. This text consists of eight chapters and begins with an introduction to changing trends in poetry in Spain between 1918 and the present. Federico García Lorca (1898–1936) is perhaps Spain’s most famous writer and cultural icon. By the age of thirty, he had become the most successful member of a brilliant generation of poets, winning critical and popular acclaim by fusing traditional and avant-garde themes and techniques. He would go on to reinvent Spanish theater too, writing bold, experimental, and often shocking plays that dared openly to explore both female and homosexual desire. A vibrant and mercurial personality, by the time Lorca visited Argentina in late 1933, he had become the most celebrated writer and cultural figure in the Spanish-speaking world. But Lorca’s fame could not survive politics: his identification with the splendor of the Second Spanish Republic (1931–36) was one of the reasons behind Lorca’s murder in August 1936 at the hands of right-wing insurgents at the start of the Spanish Civil War.
