Excerpt from Illustrated History and Biographical Record of Lenawee County, Mich It was not until the Slst of December, 1836, that Lenawee County became fully organized by act of the Legislative Council. The seat of justice was then established On the northwest quarter of section numbered thirty-four, in township five south, range four east, in said County of Lenawee, on lands owned by Messrs. Wing, Evans and Brown, agreeably to the plan of a town or village (tecumseh), situ ated on the said northwest quarter section, and recorded in the Regis ter's office in the county of Monroe the twenty-sixth day of June, By this act the inhabitants of Lenawee County were entitled to all the rights and privileges to which, by law, the inhabitants of the other counties of the Territory are entitled. Gen. Joseph W. Brown was the first judge of the county, and the original plat of the village (now city) of Niles was recorded in the first volume of the registry of deeds of Lenawee County.
