Book Description
With production from unconventional rigs continuing to escalate and refineries grappling with the challenges of shale and heavier oil feedstocks, petroleum engineers and refinery managers must ensure that equipment used with today’s crude oil is protected from fouling deposits Crude Oil Fouling addresses this overarching challenge for the petroleum community with clear explanations on what causes fouling, current models and new approaches to evaluate and study the formation of deposits, and how today’s models could be applied from lab experiment to onsite field usability for not just the refinery, but for the rig, platform, or pipeline. Crude Oil Fouling is a must-have reference for every petroleum engineer’s library that gives the basic framework needed to analyze, model, and integrate the best fouling strategies and operations for crude oil systems. Defines the most critical variables and events that cause fouling Explains the consequences of fouling and its impact on operations, safety, and economics Provides the technical models available to better predict and eliminate the potential for fouling in any crude system

Book Description
"Many oil spill occur without eye witness. In such cases technical information and data will be necessary to facilitate locating and identifying the sources of the pollution created by petroleum products. Following identification, proper enforcement for control procedures may then be exercised. This laboratory guide for the identification of petroleum pollutants has been prepared to provide the analyst with specific methods leading to a positive characterization of the waste material."--Introduction.

Book Description
This text stresses a quantitative approach with enough real physics and other sciences used to put the topics on a sound basis for students who have had little mathematical or scientific background. It continues to cover the physics of energy and the environment. The goal of the text is to bring an understanding of the technological problems facing our society to the attention of students. This text carefully discusses the impact of our actions on the lifetimes of resources, offering motivation for the reader to become interested in the material.

Book Description
All petroleums contain sulfur either combined, or, occasionally in the free state, varying from traces to four per cent or more. In general, the sulfur content increases with the asphaltic content, the light oils of Pennsylvania, Baku, and Roumania being typical of the low-sulfur oils, while the heavy California and Mexican oils may contain as high as four and one-half per cent. Sulfur in crude oils is usually present as sulfur-hydrocarbon compounds of high molecular weight which are decomposed on distillation, particularly at the higher temperatures, releasing free sulfur, hydrogen sulfide, mercaptans, and various alkyl sulfides. The methyl, isopropyl and isobutyl mercaptans were identified in Persian crude oils as well as some alkyl sulfides and disulfides.

Book Description
First published in 1990. Sulfur containing polycyclic aromatic compounds (thiaarenes) play a potentially important role in environmentally induced cancers. The main sources of these compounds being fossil fuels such as coal, petroleum and shale oils from which they are released either directly or via combustion into the environment. Information on the specific contribution of thiaarenes to the mutagenic and carcinogenic potencies of environmental matter is very limited but this book gives credit to new and exciting data in this field. Our present knowledge of the occurrence, chemical and physical properties, analysis, synthesis, toxicology and biochemistry of the sulfur containing aromatic compounds is summarized in this volume. The first half of the book covers all aspects of chemistry and carcinogenicity, whilst the remainder summarizes information on the various thiaarene systems, compound by compound. This volume will provide a valuable source of reference for chemists, ' toxicologists, biologists and environmentalists working in cancer research institutes and universities and for research scientists working in the areas of pollution monitoring, public health and fuel chemistry.
