Book Description
This is a story about one man's forty-year struggle to leave what he thought would be a temporary job in Banking to follow his lifelong dream of becoming an artist. Away from the bank, he took what time he could afford to work toward that goal. After some oil painting lessons, his skills improved. Working in his garage usually at night, he started giving away and selling some of his paintings to friends. Since Banking and Art are quite opposite, he felt as though he was leading a sort of double life. After his skills improved, he attempted to find ways to leave banking, including a wild and crazy decision to open a gallery in Carmel, California. Still living his double life, he hoped the gallery would eventually replace his bank job. It did not. When a benefactor offered to back him financially, he happily left banking, only to reluctantly return to banking when his benefactor could not continue funding. Back to his double life again, he continued painting and sold his work in several galleries. This story takes the reader on many rocky paths, some of which were dead ends, ultimately to one as a full time Artist. When Illness and death took his wife and daughter, his faith was sorely tested, however he never gave up painting. After remarrying, he and his wife returned to the Monterey Bay where the dream is still alive.

I'd Rather Do Chemo Than Clean Out the Garage
Author: Fran Di Giacomo
Publisher: BrownBooks.ORM
ISBN: 1612540805
Category : Biography & Autobiography
Languages : en
Pages : 180
Book Description
An inspiring and witty memoir by a woman battling cancer—with laughter. Fran Di Giacomo made it through one case of cancer at forty—then got hit with a worse case in her fifties. Tired of the somber, weepy books she kept getting from well-meaning friends, she stumbled upon a book that made her laugh out loud—and realized that was what she’d been missing. Laughter felt good—and that was how she wanted to feel. Inspired, she wrote this unique memoir, an unsentimental, sharply funny take on her experience—including her favorite techniques for shamelessly exploiting the chemo lifestyle. She reveals the way that indulging her sense of humor not only kept her sane during the hardest moments, but also allowed her to continue her successful career as an artist, even through thirteen hospitalizations, ten surgeries, and constant chemotherapy. Her book is terrifically entertaining—as her oncologist warns in the foreword, you should avoid reading it in the immediate postoperative period due to the risk of popping a suture. It can also help other cancer patients, or anyone dealing with hardship, to cultivate a zesty enthusiasm for life and empower themselves to keep fighting.

Book Description
The discovery of a family cookbook changes the life of a beleaguered woman in this novel by the author of The Language of Sisters. Two years ago, Olivia Martindale left behind her Montana hometown and her husband, Jace, certain it was the best decision for both of them. Back temporarily to protect her almost-adopted daughters from their biological mother, she discovers an old, handwritten cookbook in the attic. Its pages are stained and torn, their edges scorched by flame. Some have been smeared by water . . . or tears. The recipes are written in different hands and in different languages. In between the pages are intriguing mementos, including a feather, a pressed rose, a charm, and unfamiliar photographs. Hoping the recipes will offer a window into her grandmother’s closely guarded past, Olivia decides to make each dish, along with their favorite family cake recipes, and records her attempts. The result, like much of her life to date, involves a parade of near-disasters and chaotic appearances by her doctor mother, her blunt grandma, her short-tempered sister, and Olivia’s two hilarious daughters. The project is messy, real—and an unintended hit with viewers. Even more surprising is the family history Olivia is uncovering, and her own reemerging ties to Montana, and to Jace. Generations of women have shared these recipes, offering strength and nourishment to each other and their loved ones. Now it’s Olivia’s turn to find healing—and determine where her home and her heart truly belong. Praise for Cathy Lamb “This finely pitched family melodrama is balanced with enough gallows humor and idiosyncratic characters to make it positively irresistible.” —Publishers Weekly on Henry’s Sisters

A Paris, France adventure, with a brief appearance in a French Band revitalized Dottie's passion for her career and she returns with renewed passion for life, but less for marriage. Priorly, in her adamant testimony of her moralizing, self-righteous virtues, Dottie is now forced to EAT CROW as she joins the coterie of the "Angels Flying too Close to the Ground" at the Gopher 'Peyton Place!
