Book Description
There is nothing better than a road trip—well, maybe if you are staying overnight for more than a night. Although it was our first real trip away from home for any length of time, it was going to be a road trip that would be remembered for the rest of our lives. We were going to be away for only half a fortnight. How would we cope with being away from home for that length of time? There were not going to be any wives, girlfriends, or even mummies to look after us. Would we survive, or could we even survive? I’m sure our livers would not have lasted much more than the seven days of heavy drinking that we did. This trip was going to be the start of the rest of our lives. It was going to be the ultimate road trip ... It was going to be eight guys looking to play a little golf, eight guys looking for a little love, and eight guys trying to figure out who was going to be able to drink the most. The thing is, I thought I had it all wrapped up before we had even left Canada. The eight of us who came to party were as follows: Theodore the farmer, who was supposed to be our designated driver for the week, but he became our designated drunk. We had Pudden, who was the only sensible one in the bunch. His brother-in-law Kevin also came. I think he came; well, they told me he came. My best friend, Stewart came; but all he wanted to do was fight me for all the girlies that we encountered. Johnny, my twin brother, who could do no wrong, also came. Of course, we had gullible Paulie, who acted like an eight-year-old all the time. Then, there was Buddy, who was easily tricked into doing just about anything that we wanted him to do. And then there was me; I’m pretty sure that all I did the whole trip was drink and listen to some loud rock and roll music. As you come across each little incident, you will likely figure out that it was not all about me. It’s just that I had to write it that way to protect all the guilty participants.

Becoming Beka Series
Author: Sarah Anne Sumpolec
Publisher: Moody Publishers
ISBN: 0802482791
Category : Juvenile Fiction
Languages : en
Pages : 1006
Book Description
This set includes all five books of the Becoming Beka series: The Masquerade, The Alliance, The Passage, The Reveal, and The Encore. In The Masquerade, Beka Madison's "good girl" image has been crumbling around her since her mother's tragic death. She can't let her family discover she's not really a Christian, but her ragged emotions threaten to expose her. The Masquerade is an absorbing story of a teenage girl's struggle with self discovery and the revelation that truth brings freedom. In The Alliance, Beka heads back to school with a new-found faith, but that faith is tested sooner than she expected. As she spends time with the eclectic theater group, she is pulled further into her friendship with Gretchen, who has become fascinated with the occult and convinces Beka there is no harm in the tarot cards, crystals, and spells that their group of friends is dabbling in. Beka also struggles in her growing relationship with Mark, who is pressuring her to spend time with him behind her father's back. In the midst of all these shifting alliances, Beka must decide where her true loyalties lie. In The Passage, it's springtime in Bragg County and love is in the air. A church retreat allows Beka to get to know Josh better; but she learns that even though she likes him, his college choice may put a wrench in their relationship. Confused about her relationship with Josh, Beka seeks out Mark for solace. When Mark tries getting physical with Beka, she ponders issues of purity. In The Reveal, Beka, after a summer filled with work and guitar lessons, spends ten days in Haiti before launching into her senior year. She seems to be on stable footing, but everyone around her is falling apart. Surprises await Beka as she faces Gretchen after her two-month stay in detention. Gretchen is darker and moodier. Then there's Mark, who worms his way back into Beka's affections despite her father's refusal to let them officially date. In The Encore, Beka returns for the final semester of her senior year and quickly finds herself in trouble. The song she wrote and performed offended a fellow student and the principal blames Beka and her teacher Mr. Thompson. Meanwhile, she's torn between two different guys, Mark and Josh. And as she prepares for her father's upcoming wedding, Beka is devastated to learn the family will be moving out of their house and into her dad's fiancee's house. Soon Beka is overwhelmed with decisions, including the option to sign a record contract and move to LA after graduation.

Publisher: Penguin
ISBN: 110153169X
Category : Fiction
Languages : en
Pages : 123
Book Description
John Steinbeck’s Nobel Prize–winning tale of commitment, loneliness, hope, and loss—now a Deluxe eBook enhanced with exclusive content, including an interview with James Earl Jones, for the ultimate educational experience. An intimate portrait of two men who cherish the slim bond between them and the dream they share in a world marred by petty tyranny, misunderstanding, jealousy, and callousness. Clinging to each other in their loneliness and alienation, George and his simple-minded friend Lennie dream, as drifters will, of a place to call their own—a couple of acres and a few pigs, chickens, and rabbits back in Hill Country where land is cheap. But after they come to work on a ranch in the fertile Salinas Valley of California, their hopes, like “the best laid schemes o’mice an’ men,” begin to go awry. A rarity in American letters, Of Mice and Men achieved remarkable success as a novel, a Broadway play, and two acclaimed films. Now enhanced with additional content, Of Mice and Men Deluxe allows the reader to delve into one of Steinbeck’s most beloved novels as never before. Of Mice and Men Deluxe includes the following: • An introduction and suggested further reading by Susan Shillinglaw, a professor of English at San José State University and Scholar-in-Residence at the National Steinbeck Center in Salinas • A video slideshow of historic 1930s Dust Bowl images that captures the period of several Steinbeck works by American documentary photographer Dorothea Lange • The poem “To a Mouse, On Turning Her Up in Her Nest with the Plough, November 1785” by Robert Burns (the original source of Steinbeck’s title Of Mice and Men) • Stills from the 1992 film adaptation starring Gary Sinise and John Malkovich • The 1962 Nobel Banquet Speech by John Steinbeck • An exclusive Q&A with renowned composer and librettist Carlisle Floyd on Of Mice and Men as an American classic opera • An exclusive audio interview with award-winning actor James Earl Jones on his stage performances in Of Mice and Men • And much more

Apostle Paul's Case: The Root of the Lie We Have Been Told for 2000 Years
Author: F.P. Josh
Publisher: Strategic Book Publishing & Rights Agency
ISBN: 1631351923
Category : Religion
Languages : en
Pages : 79
Book Description
Could it be that the turbulent times we live in today stem from false teachings by Paul the Apostle in the first century? Inside, author F.P. Josh takes a fascinating look at the time of Jesus and the conflicts between the teachings of Paul and Apostle Peter. Using scripture, Josh makes the case that Paul changed some of the laws handed down by God in the Old Testament, and twisted some of the teachings of Jesus to suit his purposes. The author goes on to show how Paul changed his personal story many times to keep himself from running afoul of the local Jewish priests and the Roman Empire. Why is it that this controversial figure is responsible in part for fourteen of the twenty-seven books in the New Testament? His epistles are considered important writings in the foundation of the Christian faith. Josh believes that Paul often served his own interests and angered God in the process. The world is now paying the price for that as we are punished us for following Paul?s teachings rather than the original laws prescribed in the Old Testament. Is it too late for us? Can we turn from those teachings to save our world and ourselves? Apostle Paul?s Case: The Root of the Lie We Have Been Told for 2000 Years is an eye opener and is a must-read for anyone wishing to truly understand the Bible and follow Jesus Christ in truth.
