"Orhan Veli was born in Istanbul, in 1914. He studied philosophy, worked for the Turkish Post Office and as a literary translator. A founder of the Garip (“strange”) movement, he is one of Turkey’s most popular poets. His poems are innovative, appealing freely to the senses, heart and mind.
