Book Description
Hailed By Architectural Digest as one of the top 100 designers and architects at work today, William W. Stubbs has designed urban penthouses, vacation retreats, and country mansions around the globe from Hawaii to Moscow. In this lively, irreverent memoir, Stubbs recounts the extraordinary, exasperating, often hilarious adventures that have colored his stellar career. Illustrated with more than 150 color photographs of the spaces Stubbs has transformed, the book details the activities and thought processes that went into some of his most spectacular projects. These include the reconstruction of an ordinary Mexican vacation house into a mansion worthy of its stunning views of Acapulco Bay, the renovation of a 100-year-old schoolhouse in Newport, Rhode Island, into stylish apartments for senior citizens; and the project that inspired the book's title, a Houston penthouse designed around the color red, which caused his impulsive client to fire him over the phone. (Of course, when the client saw the finished apartment, he loved it-to the point that Stubbs had trouble convincing him to abandon the color in subsequent renovations.) Also featured is Stubbs's most breathtaking project to date: a country dacha in the Ukraine that he transformed from a dowdy Soviet retreat into an estate fit for a king. Its lavish main house boasts not only jewel-like rooms, but also a unique "hidden" bar, a state-of-the art home theater, and an astonishing underground wine cellar. The main house is surrounded by a sublime park, also designed by Stubbs, featuring a man-made lake and waterfalls, a gazebo, and charming bridges even Olmsted and Vaux would happily claim as their own. This entertaining volume is a rarity-a beautiful design book that people will actually want to read. Book jacket.

Book Description
In "Lake of Fire" our main character travels through the world, escaping mental institutions and jobs to keep one step ahead of his father (whose name is Dr. Crabb) who is pursuing him to take over the family business. What is the family business? Nothing short of (eventual) world domination. Our main character finds that the farther he runs from his father, the more he becomes him, discovering that he has been inside of him all along. In a final climactic scene, father and son, reunited descend into the firey depths of the Lake of Fire. In the second part of our book, "A Fire in the Heart" we experience episodes of miracle and of nightmare as the world is examined on an autopsy table of the author's dreams and fears. In the third book, "Jupiter's Hills" I weep for the beauty of the world. Ostensibly a story about Jupiter's Hills, history is examined. The hills are from Jupiter, belong to the God Jupiter or are just red hills here on Earth that suggest a strata of reality and detail that is other-worldly.

Book Description
From legendary Western author Max Brand comes a collection of stories about a slave, a jewel thief, and a captive. In “Master and Man,” Bobbie is a black man who can outride, outfight, and outshoot any white man in the mountain desert. His unwavering moral code serves as a model for his often cruel and dissolute white master. “A Lucky Dog” is a tale of the desperate flight of a jewel thief named Hagger from the man he robbed. In Colorado, facing a battle with winter cold and snow, he comes upon an isolated cabin and its sole occupant, a weakened bull terrier left there to starve to death. The man and dog come to depend on each other—to a point where Hagger would make any sacrifice and endure any hardship just to keep the dog alive. In the title story, “Red Fire,” Paul Torridon, called White Thunder by the Cheyenne Indians, and his girlfriend, Nancy Brett, are being held prisoner by the Cheyenne because they believe he can cure illness and bring rain. While Roger Lincoln, a frontiersman who has known Torridon since the early days of his feud with the Brett clan, devises a plan for their escape, Torridon’s captors take every precaution they can to keep him imprisoned, even if it means killing him rather than losing him. Skyhorse Publishing is proud to publish a broad range of books for readers interested in fiction that takes place in the old West. Westerns—books about outlaws, sheriffs, chiefs and warriors, cowboys and Indians—are a genre in which we publish regularly. Our list includes international bestselling authors like Zane Gray and Louis L’Amour, and many more. While not every title we publish becomes a New York Times bestseller or a national bestseller, we are committed to books on subjects that are sometimes overlooked and to authors whose work might not otherwise find a home.

Book Description
During the 1820s and 30s nautical melodramas "reigned supreme" on London stages, entertaining the mariners and maritime workers who comprised a large part of the audience for small theatres. These plays mixed sentimental moments and comic interludes of domestic melodrama with patriotic images that communicated and reinforced imperial themes. However, generally the study of British theatre history moves from medieval and renaissance plays directly to the realism and naturalism of late Victorian and modern drama. Readers typically encounter a gap between Restoration and eighteenth-century plays like those of Oliver Goldsmith and Richard Brinsley Sheridan, and late-nineteenth plays by Henrik Ibsen and Oscar Wilde. Nineteenth-century drama, with the possible exception of plays by Byron, Shelley, and Wordsworth, remains all but invisible. Until recently, melodramatic plays written and performed during this "gap" received little scholarly attention, but their value as reflections of Britain’s promulgation of imperial ideology — and its role in constructing and maintaining class, gender, and racial identities — have given discussions of melodrama force and momentum. The plays included in these three volumes have never appeared in a critical anthology and most have not been republished since their original nineteenth-century editions. Each play is transcribed from original documents and includes an author biography, a headnote about the play itself, full annotations with brief definitions of unfamiliar vocabulary, and explanatory notes. Comprehensive editorial apparatus details the nineteenth-century imperial, naval, political, and social history relevant to the plays’ nautical themes, as well as discussing nineteenth-century theatre history, melodrama generally, and the nautical melodrama in particular. Contemporary theatre practices — acting, audiences, staging, lighting, special effects — are also examined. An extensive bibliography of primary and secondary texts; a complete index; and contemporary images of the actors, theatres, stage sets, playbills, costumes, and locales have been compiled to aid study further.
