High Angle of Attack Aerodynamics
Author: Josef Rom
Publisher: Springer Science & Business Media
ISBN: 1461228247
Category : Science
Languages : en
Pages : 408
Book Description
The aerodynamics of aircraft at high angles of attack is a subject which is being pursued diligently, because the modern agile fighter aircraft and many of the current generation of missiles must perform well at very high incidence, near and beyond stall. However, a comprehensive presentation of the methods and results applicable to the studies of the complex aerodynamics at high angle of attack has not been covered in monographs or textbooks. This book is not the usual textbook in that it goes beyond just presenting the basic theoretical and experimental know-how, since it contains reference material to practical calculation methods and technical and experimental results which can be useful to the practicing aerospace engineers and scientists. It can certainly be used as a text and reference book for graduate courses on subjects related to high angles of attack aerodynamics and for topics related to three-dimensional separation in viscous flow courses. In addition, the book is addressed to the aerodynamicist interested in a comprehensive reference to methods of analysis and computations of high angle of attack flow phenomena and is written for the aerospace scientist and engineer who is familiar with the basic concepts of viscous and inviscid flows and with computational methods used in fluid dynamics.

Hypersonic Lifting Body Windward Surface Flow-field Analysis for High Angles of Incidence
Author: John C. Adams (Jr.)
Publisher:
ISBN:
Category : Aerodynamics, Hypersonic
Languages : en
Pages : 240
Book Description
Formulation and application of a windward surface flow-field (inviscid and viscous) analysis is presented for general lifting body configurations at high angles of incidence under hypersonic perfect gas conditions. The technique applies a strip theory concept, leading to an infinite extent yawed body treatment applied in the windward surface crossflow plane for both the inviscid and viscous (boundary layer) flow fields. The boundary-layer analysis is based on the governing equations for yawed blunt body boundary layers.

Hypersonic Flow Research
Author: F.R. Riddell
Publisher: Elsevier
ISBN: 0323142621
Category : Transportation
Languages : en
Pages : 769
Book Description
Progress in Astronautics and Rocketry, Volume 7: Hypersonic Flow Research compiles papers presented at a conference on hypersonics held at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in August 1961. This book discusses the low Reynolds number effects, chemical kinetics effects, inviscid flow calculations, and experimental techniques relating to the problems in acquiring an understanding of hypersonic flow. The structure and composition of hypersonic wakes with attendant complex chemical kinetic effects is only briefly mentioned. This text consists of five parts. Parts A to C comprise of theoretical papers on the problems of calculating flow fields at hypersonic speeds. The experimental techniques that are of immediate practical interest in view of the difficulty of flight testing are discussed in Parts D and E. This publication is beneficial to engineers involved in advanced design problems.

Laser Velocimetry Measurements of Vortex Flows on a Delta Wing at Mach 1.9
Author: Linda G. Smith
Publisher:
ISBN:
Category : Aerodynamics, Supersonic
Languages : en
Pages : 120
Book Description
Off-body flow visualizations and fluid velocity measurements are conducted in a supersonic vortex flow. Three-dimensional laser velocimetry measurements are made in the leeward flowfield over a simple sharp-edged delta wing with 75 degree sweep angle. Tests are conducted at Mach 1.9 and Reynolds number of 2.4 x 10(exp 6) based on model root chord. Measurements are made at 40% and 80% chord positions for 20 and 30 degree angles of attack and at 40% chord for 35 degrees. Mean velocities and turbulence intensities are measured on the five planes. Measurement accuracy is discussed in detail. The measurements define the location of the vortex core and provide the flowfield velocities surrounding the vortex. The difficulties inherent with seeding high velocity vortex flows are discussed ... Laser Velocimetry Measurement of Vortical Flowfields.
