Book Description
This book presents key principles of the hydraulics of river basins, with a unique focus on the interplay between stream flows and sediment transport. Addressing a number of basic topics related to the hydraulics of river systems, above all it emphasizes applicative aspects in order to provide the reader with a solid grasp of river engineering. The understanding of the river hydraulics is essential for the assessment of optimum locations for the conservation of water resources and its structures. This book will be interesting to readers and researchers working in the specialized area of river hydraulics of Ganga basin, Narmada, Tapi, Godavari, and other basins of India. It consists of review on hydraulics of meandering river; hydraulic design of reservoir in permeable pavement; optimization of hydraulic design; hydraulic investigations to optimize the design of spillway and design of energy dissipater; and analysis of performance of orifice spillway using computational fluid dynaics

Book Description
Hydraulic engineering of dams and their appurtenant structures counts among the essential tasks to successfully design safe water-retaining reservoirs for hydroelectric power generation, flood retention, and irrigation and water supply demands. In view of climate change, especially dams and reservoirs, among other water infrastructure, will and have to play an even more important role than in the past as part of necessary mitigation and adaptation measures to satisfy vital needs in water supply, renewable energy and food worldwide as expressed in the Sustainable Development Goals of the United Nations. This book deals with the major hydraulic aspects of dam engineering considering recent developments in research and construction, namely overflow, conveyance and dissipations structures of spillways, river diversion facilities during construction, bottom and low-level outlets as well as intake structures. Furthermore, the book covers reservoir sedimentation, impulse waves and dambreak waves, which are relevant topics in view of sustainable and safe operation of reservoirs. The book is richly illustrated with photographs, highlighting the various appurtenant structures of dams addressed in the book chapters, as well as figures and diagrams showing important relations among the governing parameters of a certain phenomenon. An extensive literature review along with an updated bibliography complete this book.

Book Description
Excerpt from Calculations in Hydraulic Engineering, Vol. 2: A Practical d104-Book for the Use of Students, Draughtsmen, and Engineers, With Numerous Illustrations and Examples The calculations which form the subject-matter of this volume are those relating to the motion of water and to the design of works intended for its conveyance. The problems that most frequently arise in the design of such works are treated from a practical point of view; and the chief object of the writer throughout has been to meet the actual requirements of the hydraulic engineer in his daily practice. In great measure these problems will have reference to the uniform flow of water in pipes and channels, and in all such questions it must be admitted that nothing like a mathematical accuracy is by any means attainable; but it will be the desire of every engineer to employ a method that shall approximate as closely as possible to the ascertainable truth. On the other hand, such calculations will often have to be repeated many scores or hundreds of times for the purposes of one work of construction; and the exigencies of an engineer's practice will almost forbid the employment of any method that involves a great complexity of calculation. The methods which have been followed in this volume will generally require the use of a table of logarithms; but if they do not quite possess the delightful simplicity of the old and well-known formula, they will certainly avoid its more serious errors, while they are capable of being applied with great facility to the questions that most frequently arise in practice. To lighten the labour of such computations, tables of discharge have been worked out for pipes and for brick culverts of circular section. At the same time, the evidences of experiment, including recent observations, have been analyzed with the object of determining the varying values of the coefficient in the old formula, so that the familiar calculations can be worked out with a tolerable degree of accuracy, on the old lines, wherever that course may be preferred. Book Description
This is the second volume of a two-volume guide to designing, conducting and interpreting laboratory and field experiments in a broad range of topics associated with hydraulic engineering. Specific guidance is provided on methods and instruments currently used in experimental hydraulics, with emphasis on new and emerging measurement technologies and methods of analysis. Additionally, this book offers a concise outline of essential background theory, underscoring the intrinsic connection between theory and experiments. This book is much needed, as experimental hydraulicians have had to refer to guidance scattered in scientific papers or specialized monographs on essential aspects of laboratory and fieldwork practice. The book is the result of the first substantial effort in the community of hydraulic engineering to describe in one place all the components of experimental hydraulics. Included is the work of a team of more than 45 professional experimentalists, who explore innovative approaches to the vast array of experiments of differing complexity encountered by today’s hydraulic engineer, from laboratory to field, from simple but well-conceived to complex and well-instrumented. The style of this book is intentionally succinct, making frequent use of convenient summaries, tables and examples to present information. All researchers, practitioners, and students conducting or evaluating experiments in hydraulics will find this book useful.
