Book Description
Henry J. Seiler was an energetic eleven year old who excelled at wrestling, and while he may have felt indestructible, he learned how fragile life was on a spring day in 1975 when he climbed on the back of a friend's motorcycle. Minutes later, he was lying in a crumpled heap and being rushed to a hospital in nearby Des Moines, Iowa, where he spent forty-five days in a coma. Doctors told his family and friends that they didn't expect him to live. But Henry--even in his comatose state--thought otherwise, and he dared to live. With the same strong-willed determination he exhibited as a wrestler, he awakened from his coma and fought to overcome his physical challenges. Henry encourages us to handle life as it comes, working through every day as if it were any other day. Abiding by his motto, "I know where I am going, and I know what it takes to get there," was his key to success. No matter what challenges you're facing--even if you're flat on your back and staring at the ceiling tiles--you can find the will to succeed and come out a winner by learning from Henry.

Book Description
The days are gone when seemingly limitless numbers of canvasbacks, mallards, and Canada geese filled the skies above the Texas coast. Gone too are the days when, in a single morning, hunters often harvested ducks, shorebirds, and other waterfowl by the hundreds. The hundred-year period from the mid-nineteenth to the mid-twentieth centuries brought momentous changes in attitudes and game laws: changes initially prompted by sportsmen who witnessed the disappearance of both the birds and their spectacular habitat. These changes forever affected the state’s storied hunting culture. Yet, as R. K. Sawyer discovered, the rich lore and reminiscences of the era’s hunters and guides who plied the marshy haunts from Beaumont to Brownsville, though fading, remain a colorful and essential part of the Texas outdoor heritage. Gleaned from interviews with sportsmen and guides of decades past as well as meticulous research in news archives, Sawyer’s vivid documentation of Texas’ deep-rooted waterfowl hunting tradition is accompanied by a superb collection of historical and modern photographs. He showcases the hunting clubs, the decoys, the duck and goose calls, the equipment, and the unique hunting practices of the period. By preserving this account of a way of life and a coastal environment that have both mostly vanished, A Hundred Years of Texas Waterfowl Hunting also pays tribute to the efforts of all those who fought to ensure that Texas’ waterfowl legacy would endure. This book will aid their efforts, along with those of coastal residents, birders, wildlife biologists, conservationists, and all who are interested in the state’s natural history and in championing the preservation of waterfowl and wetland resources for the benefit of future generations.

Book Description
Cover Flap In the early 1080’s all of the English, including Raynar, are lulled into a false sense of security by the peace and fat times of the anarchy caused by a power vacuum. False because when the Norman duke of southern Italy unexpectedly dies in 1085, warriors return to Normandy and King William uses them to invade England for the second time. The largest army that William has ever raised sweeps across England like the Black Death. Raynar sets out to hunt Norman nobility with a wolfpack of men who have nothing left to loose. King Henry’s invasion of Normandy in 1105 fails because of the treachery of French knights. In 1106 he launches a second invasion, this time using English infantry, including bowmen recruited by Raynar. About the Author Skye Smith is my pen name. My ancestors were miners and shepherds near Castleton in the Peaks District of Derbyshire. I have been told by some readers that this series reminds them of Bernard Cornwell’s historical novels, and have always been delighted by the comparison. This is the twelfth of my Hoodsman series of books, and the last book set in the era of the Conqueror. Please read the first book, “Killing Kings” before you read this book. All of the books contain two timelines linked by characters and places. The “current” story is set in the era of King Henry I in the 1100’s, while the longer “flashback” story is set in the era of King William I after 1066. I have self-published twelve “The Hoodsman” historical-adventure novels and one Companion reference book for the series: # - SubTitle William I Timeline Henry I Timeline 1.
