Book Description
It was a balmy day near Latfurt West Germany in the Spring of 1979. Young electro-static researchers Lucas Fuller, Mark Kessler, Kyle Hamon and Jake Welder are having the time of their lives working with the great particle accelerator, Big Momma, that has been put at their disposal by the US and West German governments. But little do they know that they are about to embark on an epoch odyssey that will change their lives forever. The famous West German scientist Doctor Victor von Schmelt soon arrives to examine their work, in order to make his report to those higher-ups in authority who have given the young scientists the privilege of using the great static generator for their cellular studies. But what is it about the man that unnerves them so? By the hand of a saboteur and a strange twist of fate Lucas Fuller is sent on an unanticipated journey. He soon realizes that there are unexpected side effects to the research he and his friends have been engaged in, and he suddenly finds himself in a most forbidding and unholy never-land. Trapped in Nazi Germany in the Fall of 1943, Fuller realizes that he is in the most precarious of predicaments. It seems to him that he is forever lost to his own time as he sets about planning his escape to the Allied lines. But then he finds out that he and his friends were not the only ones engaged in research. What are the Nazis doing to the children they claim to be treating? And why are they doing it? Lucas' plans are quickly changed when he meets the lovely, gypsy Anna. She and her grandmother have been captured by the Nazis; and as true members of the Third Reich, the Nazi hatred of these simple, nomadic people is almost as great as their hatred for the Jews. Mark Kessler, Kyle Hamon and Jake Welder put their heads together to try and determine what really happened to their friend Lucas. Could what they theorize happened to him really have happened? Is there any way to get him back? Perhaps there is, if they're willing to risk their own lives. All is brought to light as the race against time begins. For now, time is both their enemy and their friend. It is their attempt, their chance, their hope to somehow undo the catastrophic series of events that have come to pass as a result of The Pendulum Project

The Puppy Diaries
Author: Jill Abramson
Publisher: Hachette UK
ISBN: 1444720643
Category : Pets
Languages : en
Pages : 228
Book Description
One sparkling summer day, Jill Abramson brought home a nine-week-old golden retriever named Scout. Over the following year, as she and her husband raised their adorable new puppy, Abramson wrote a hugely popular column for The New York Times's website about the joys and challenges of training this rambunctious addition to their family. Dog-lovers from across the country inundated her with emails and letters, and the photos they sent in of their own dogs became the most visited photo album on the Times's site in 2009. Now, Abramson has gone far beyond the material in her column and written a detailed and deeply personal account of Scout's first year. Part memoir, part manual, part investigative report, The Puppy Diaries continues Abramson's intrepid reporting on all things canine. Along the way, she weighs in on such issues as breeders or shelters, adoption or rescue, raw diet or vegan, pack-leader gurus like Cesar Millan or positive-reinforcement advocates like Karen Pryor. What should you expect when a new puppy enters your life? With utterly winning stories and a wealth of practical information, The Puppy Diaries provides an essential road map for navigating the first year of your dog's life.

We, the Children
Author: Victoria McGuinness
Publisher: Balboa Press
ISBN: 1504345770
Category : Psychology
Languages : en
Pages : 131
Book Description
Welcome to the world of little ones and their secret, poetic language. When a five-year-old adopted from China can express her lack of personal value non-verbally in play and name the feeling the pile of none, it may be time for adults to tune into childrens play and non-verbal communication on a deeper level. The metaphorical language of very young children accurately reflects the story of their experiences and relationships, but it is too often dismissed by adults as merely childs play. Parenting plans, weighty court decisions and child investigations that disregard the non-verbal testimony of children can contribute to bending a childs development in the wrong direction damaging his or her life-long journey. Because of this miscommunication, children are often forced to spend time with the very people who hurt them and endure years of feeling invalidated, invisible, and powerless. It is common knowledge that childhood stories shape adult lives. In transforming old, worn-out stories about ones identity, the individual may discover how much happiness may be embraced by re-claiming ones true identity. We the Children invites the reader to begin the process of becoming empowered by first transforming any story in which he or she is a victim into one in which the reader might emerge feeling fully empowered. Personal empowerment opens the imagination by converting negative messages about oneself learned in childhood into affirmations as to what is good about us now ask yourself what degree of freedom could be obtained?
