Please Remember
Author: Sharon Doherty
Publisher: Trafford Publishing
ISBN: 1425157920
Category : Biography & Autobiography
Languages : en
Pages : 264
Book Description
Please Remember began as a pregnancy diary - a light-hearted and frank account of lives of the developing baby and ballooning mother. From the vertical blue line in the doctor’s surgery, the story unfolds. Through the excitement, the stress and strain, the baby’s kicks, the clothes, the swollen ankles and the increasing anticipation of bringing a new life into the world. The big day arrived sooner than expected but without a shadow of doubt. Three gentle little cries from a beautiful baby boy were enough to comfort me after an emergency c-section. But three little cries weren’t enough to mean that he was okay. He wasn’t, and the delight soon turned to disbelief and despair as the severity of his sickness was uncovered. Enlarged liver, spleen and heart, enlarged ventricles in his brain and a very low blood count all meant that he was a very sick little boy. But he looked great. He was big, looked strong and would grasp my finger when I placed it in the palm of his hand. I couldn’t believe that he wouldn’t make it. Four days later, in the quiet of the early morning, he slipped away into the unknown however. I curled up into a ball, emotionless, empty and heartbroken and lay looking at him. Shock and sadness reverberated through close family and friends but the rest of the world continued, unaware. The days and weeks passed but the heartache only deepened as the numbness of disbelief began to recede and the reality set in. The rest of the book follows me through the grieving process and my search for answers.

Rampage 1982
Author: B.D. Renard
Publisher: Xlibris Corporation
ISBN: 1664124489
Category : Fiction
Languages : en
Pages : 167
Book Description
"THE AFTERMATH" to Rampage 1982 highlights the investigation of the retribution murders of three of the convicted 1982 felons who had served their thirty years of incarceration and were released in 2012. On Memorial Day, 2013 their mutilated bodies were discovered artfully nailed to three Oak trees in the parking lot of what is now, the Old Westbury Diner, the very site of their long forgotten carnage, deliberately, on the thirty first anniversary of that barbaric 1982 night. Driven by duty and ego, Detective Lieutenant Patricia McAvoy uses all of the assets and experience of her Homicide Squad South veterans to solve this macabre triple murder. She zeros in on the most damaged victims of the 1982 mayhem who were either robbed, raped, sodomized, shot, seriously assaulted or mentally affected. Disregarding a lack of public sympathy for the murdered trio, she relentlessly builds the case against her leading suspects and ultimately prompts the Nassau County District Attorney to indict the "sadistic six" she is convinced are guilty of the murders. As the investigation proceeds, salient facts are unearthed that ensure the murder trial is not a "slam dunk." Corkscrew twists and turns abundantly abound, leading to a bizarre finale which begs the question as to who really were the avengers of the 1982 savage crime spree?

American Calamity
Author: Edward S. Pocock III
Publisher: BookLocker.com, Inc.
ISBN:
Category : Fiction
Languages : en
Pages : 379
Book Description
Maine – where an American patriot could go to retire, or so he hoped. Stephen Moore was ready to put his police force days behind him. Unfortunately, Foreign superpowers disrupted his plan. China has been playing the long game for decades and has successfully managed to turn the United States against itself, further polarizing the red and blue and pitting the Federal government against its once-loyal citizens. It was the quagmire that China had been waiting for to launch an EMP attack using their proxy, North Korea. American Calamity is a fictitious dystopian page-turner that shows the ramifications of unchecked power in a society. Rooted in historical events, it paints an eerie picture of what could come to be in the near future and the choices many Americans would be forced to make in a post-apocalyptic world. Do you run or do you fight? Are they your ally or do they have ulterior motives? Where is the line between American patriot and militia rebel? Moore and an eclectic cast of characters are woven together through events that are not for the faint of heart– their stories told with just the right level of detail to thrust you into the chaos but with enough space to let your imagination fill in the terrifying blanks. Could this be the end of civilization as we know it? Not if an old tank named Spanky has anything to say about it!

ruth weiss
Author: Estíbaliz Encarnación-Pinedo
Publisher: Walter de Gruyter GmbH & Co KG
ISBN: 3110694557
Category : Literary Criticism
Languages : en
Pages : 291
Book Description
ruth weiss, born in Berlin in 1928 to Austrian-Jewish parents, arrived in San Francisco in 1952 after hitchhiking through the United States. Crowned years later as the “Goddess of the Beat Generation” by San Francisco Chronicle critic Herb Caen, weiss has worked for almost seven decades with a plurality of artistic forms. Despite her extensive poetry career and very active participation in the West Coast buzzing artistic community since the early 1950s, weiss has remained an essentially overlooked figure in poetry history. This neglect might be representative of the overshadowing of female artists within the Beat Generation as “a marginalized group within an always already marginalized bohemia” (Johnson). The volume taps directly into this lacuna by proving the first close study on one of the most prolific members of the so-called Beat Generation. Offering diverse and comprehensive points of entrance into weiss’s oeuvre, the essays in this volume adopt a multidisciplinary approach that attests to the cross-pollination between art forms in postwar counterculture. In addition, the volume also includes shorter, non-academic contributions and previously unpublished archival material. Bringing together scholars, academics and artists from around the world, this volume represents a timely and much-needed response to the increasing interest in weiss’s work in the last decades.
