Book Description
The story of HMS Bellerophon is a record of the many and varied duties which the Royal Navy had to carry out in the period 1793 1815. It was involved in the first great fleet action of the War and was involved in the last moments of the struggle with the surrender of Napoleon. The 74-gun ship was the standard unit in the line of battle, Bellerophon was one of the most distinguished with a fine fighting record. Having fought at 'The Glorious First of June'; the battle of the Nile and at Trafalgar the ship saw more than her share of fierce ship-to-ship encounters. In between there were the varying duties of blockade and escort carried out with service in the Channel, the Mediterranean, the North Sea, the Baltic and the West Indies. The ship saw every type of service which fell to the Navy in that period. All the many and various aspects of the ship's life are covered from construction through maintenance and refits to final disposal. Sadly the ship could not be been saved like Victory and the ship and her fine record were confined to the history books.

Book Description
This is the story of the Bellerophon, a ship of the line known to her crew as the Billy Ruffian. Under fourteen captains, she played a conspicuous part in three of the most famous of all sea battles: the battle of the Glorious First of June (1794), the opening action against Revolutionary France; the battle of the Nile (1798), which halted Napoleon's eastern expansion from Cairo; and the battle of Trafalgar (1805), which established British naval supremacy for 100 years and during which her captain was shot dead with a musket ball an hour before Nelson was mortally wounded. But her crowning glory came six weeks after the Battle of Waterloo, when the Napoleon, trapped in La Rochelle, surrendered to the captain of the ship that had dogged his steps for more than twenty years.

Book Description
The late eighteenth century was the apogee of the wooden sailing ship. Naval architecture had evolved from craft of science, with designs based on hydrodynamic research and hull shapes tested in modern towing tanks. Full hull models, both contemporary as newly built, provide insight into these developments and into the complexity of sails and rigging. They do not, however, show the intricate workings of the ship; designed as an integration of men, up to 650, and machine. Few ships remained, and no major ships of the line are built as sailing replicas. Building a furnished half model, equiped with both crew as fittings and furniture does offer a view into eighteenth century life on board, organisation as well as specific structural elements needed for such an elaborate machine. This report on HMS Bellerophon, the ship Napoleon capitulated on in 1815, gives and introductionary overview of this fascinating of Royal Navy history.

For only John, Serena, and the crew know Dahlberg’s true intentions, and only they have the power to stop him from bending the world to his will . . . Praise for The Adventures of John Blake “With obvious affection for Tintin, Pullman threads this complicated skein of plot with customary measures of awe and menace . . . he proves an expert visual storyteller. Fordham animates with characters who have the detail and agility of a Studio Ghibli cast . . . Anything new from Pullman is big news, and his first original graphic novel won’t disappoint.” —Booklist, starred review “The various plot threads coalesce into a powerful tale, with the artwork creating a soaring, cinematic feel. A modern seafaring epic, highly recommended for all Pullman and fantasy fans and more than worthy of its author’s oeuvre.” —School Library Journal, starred review “Purloined technology, time travelers, ghost ships, and deception converge in this graphic page-turner . . . A richly imagined high-octane thriller.” —Kirkus Reviews “The graphic novel format lets Pullman’s . . . dialogue shine, and Fordham’s lucid panels are strong, legible, and charged with energy.” —Publishers Weekly
