Book Description
The Book of Burwell Students offers a rare glimpse into the world of women's education in the antebellum South. From 1837 to 1857, Anna and Robert Burwell ran the Burwell Female School in Hillsborough, North Carolina, educating more than two hundred young women. The Book of Burwell Students illuminates a time and place, now preserved as the Burwell School Historic Site. The late historian, Mary Claire Engstrom, wrote informative biographical sketches of many Burwell students, offering insight into life in antebellum Hillsborough, inside and outside of school, and the seminal role of Anna Burwell in shaping the students' lives.

Book Description
Marriages of Orange County contains abstracts of all the marriage bonds issued in Orange County from 1779 until 1868, when marriage bonds--as prerequisites for marriage--were discontinued. These marriage records were abstracted from a microfilm copy of the original marriage bonds on file at the State Archives in Raleigh and refer altogether to some 20,000 persons, including bondsmen. The data is arranged throughout in alphabetical order by the surname of the groom, and each entry includes the name of the bride, the date of the bond, the name of the bondsman, and, from 1851, the date of the actual marriage.

Book Description
One of the most enigmatic figures of the American Revolutionary War, Colonel David Fanning is best known for his 1781 capture of Thomas Burke, the governor of North Carolina. As a Loyalist officer, Fanning fought in more than thirty minor engagements across the Carolinas, serving as commander of Loyalist forces during the Battle of Lindley's Mill--the largest battle fought between the Whigs and Loyalists during the Tory War of 1781-82. His successes on behalf of the British government led to his being banned from North Carolina after the war. This first full-length biography chronicles Fanning's deeds through some of the most brutal fighting in the Carolinas, and his postwar tribulations in British East Florida, New Brunswick and Nova Scotia.
