Book Description
Excerpt from History of South Carolina, Vol. 4 of 5 William E. Gonzales. When the completion Of the Panama Canal brought the Pacific coast Of South America so near to our own shores, it was natural that the great Northern Republic, seeking closer relations with her South Merican sisters, should raise Peru, so interesting historically, so full Of promise industrially, from a mission to an em bassy, putting her on a diplomatic footing with Chile, Brazil and Argentina. It was natural too that in seeking for its first Ambassador to a proud and sensitive republic, the administration should have selected one who not only had behind him a record Of fine achievement during seven years of difficult service as minister to Cuba but who, by inheritance, and a life Of news paper training in service to the public, was eminently fitted for the task. And so William E. Gonzales was honored by the first Ambassadorship to the land of the once mighty Incas. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. The first six chapters and a portion of the seventh having been already composed simply With the View of preparing a textbook, nothing more is claimed for this volume than the fact that it casts some light upon the obscure and neglected period of Which it treats.
