Book Description
The purpose of this study was to investigate the Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) as the source of empowerment for African Americans, and the relevance of Louisiana Public Historically Black Colleges and Universities (LPHBCUs). During the mid-1800s, the creation of Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) took place with the intention of educating Black students. As institutions of higher learning, HBCUs have now converted from entities with a core-curriculum of reaching, religious education and serving the Black community to liberal colleges and universities. They now provide bachelor, master, and doctorate degrees in concentrated areas of education benefiting all races around the world. Although HBCUs have progressed, there remains the discredit of being inadequate, and producers of underperforming students. The perception and how the public view HBCUs may change should the media lend itself to providing positive feedback on their achievements. The continued concern that comes across and is the main concern of this study, the relevance of Louisiana Public Historically Black colleges and Universities (LPHBCUs).
