Book Description
Excerpt from Henri Bergson a Study in Radical Evolution This little book is intended to be a brief and comparatively non-technical statement of Bergson's philosophy which shall be intelligible to the general reader who wishes to know something of this much talked-of philosopher. Although fully recognising that such a book would meet a widely felt and entirely legitimate demand, I have not undertaken it without some misgivings. It is always difficult to do justice to a writer when one has to lift his leading ideas out of the context in which they properly belong. And I have no illusions of having succeeded completely in doing so. Bergson is particularly difficult to deal with in a summary sketch of this kind on account of the profusion of his thought and the extreme complexity of many of his ideas. For, in spite of the great interest of his teachings and the charm of his manner, Bergson is after all a technical writer, one who can hardly be treated adequately without bringing into requisition considerable scholarly apparatus. Book Description
Excerpt from Henri Bergson: The Philosophy of Change I am alone responsible for the plan and method that I have chosen in presenting this philosophy but Monsieur Bergson has very kindly read the proofs, and the title I have given to it, The Philosophy of Change, was suggested by him. Book Description
Creative Evolution, originally published in 1911 by Henry Holt and Company, is the work which catapulted Bergson from obscurity into world-wide fame. A study of the philosophical implications of biological evolutionary theory, the impact of this book reached far beyond biology and seemed to many to herald a new age in philosophy and the sciences.

Book Description
Excerpt from William James and Henri Bergson: A Study in Contrasting Theories of Life Of the six chapters of the book, two, in slightly different form, have been printed before, the first in the Philosophical Review, the fourth in Mind, and I acknowledge with thanks the editors' pernnss1ons to reprint these chapters. To my friends Dr. H. M. Sheffer, Mr. Alfred D. Sheffield, and Dr. H. G. Brown I owe a greater debt than I can repay for careful examination of the proofs and many valuable suggestions.
