HEC-5C, A Simulation Model for System Formulation and Evaluation

Pages : 0
Book Description
This program was developed to assist in planning studies required for the evaluation of proposed changes to a system and to assist in sizing the system components for flood control and conservation requirements for each component recommended for the system. The program can be used in studies made immediately after a flood to calculate the preproject conditions and to show the effects of existing and/or proposed reservoirs on flows and damages in the system. The program should also be useful in selecting the proper reservoir releases throughout the system during flood emergencies in order to minimize flooding as much as possible and yet empty the system as quickly as possible while maintaining the proper balance of flood control storage among the reservoirs. The above purposes are accomplished by simulating the sequential operation of various system components of any configuration for short interval historical or synthetic floods or for long duration nonflood periods, or for combinations of the two.

Estimating Sediment Delivery and Yield on Alluvial Fans
Author: Robert C. MacArthur
Publisher:
ISBN:
Category : Sediment transport
Languages : en
Pages : 14
Book Description
This paper summarizes the procedures used for computing the basinwide annual yields and single event sediment production for ephemeral channels located on an incised alluvial fan in Central California. Unique geomorphic characteristics of the basin and alluvial fan are discussed in light of data and analytical methods necessary to compute sediment delivery and yield at a proposed dam site.

Developing and Managing a Comprehensive Reservoir Analysis Model
Author: Richard J. Hayes
Publisher:
ISBN:
Category : Computer simulation
Languages : en
Pages : 22
Book Description
The Corps' Hydrologic Engineering Center (HEC) has developed a generalized simulation model capable of analyzing complex river-reservoir systems. The development of the model, 'HEC-5, Simulation of Flood Control and Conservation Systems' (Eichert, 1974, 1975) has been paced by the changing mission of the Corps as well as the evolution of computer systems. HEC-5 development and management, including code development, testing, documentation, training and field application experience, is discussed. (fr).

Operational Simulation of a Reservoir System with Pumped Storage
Author: George F. McMahon
Publisher:
ISBN:
Category : Hydraulic models
Languages : en
Pages : 38
Book Description
The Richard B. Russell Dam and Lake Project is presently under construction and is being placed in tandem between Hartwell and Clark Hill, two existing multipurpose hydropower plants on the Savannah River. System operational simulations were performed in support of a feasibility study for the installation of pump turbines at Russell, using a version of the Corps of Engineers HEC-5C computer program modified for system power and pumped storage. Information developed from the simulations include system hydropower production, pumping energy requirements, daily reservoir pool fluctuations, and reservoir elevation statistics. This information was useful in judging the effects of the addition of pumped storage on system hydropower production and reservoir recreation useability, as well as in ascertaining efficient system operational methods. (Author).
