Book Description
This work was begun quite some time ago at the University of Oxford during the tenure of an Overseas Scholarship of the Royal Commission for the Exhibition of 1851 and was completed at Banga lore when the author was being supported by a maintenance allowance from the CSIR Pool for unemployed scientists. It is hoped that significant developments taking place as late as the beginning of 1965 have been incorporated. The initial impetus and inspiration for the work came from Dr. K. Mendelssohn. To him and to Drs. R. W. Hill and N. E. Phillips, who went through the whole of the text, the author is obliged in more ways than one. For permission to use figures and other materials, grateful thanks are tendered to the concerned workers and institutions. The author is not so sanguine as to imagine that all technical and literary flaws have been weeded out. If others come across them, they may be charitably brought to the author's notice as proof that physics has become too vast to be comprehended by a single onlooker. E. S. Book Description
Patients don't present with a disease; they present with symptoms. Using a practical, symptom-based organization, Nelson Pediatric Symptom-Based Diagnosis: Common Diseases and their Mimics, 2nd Edition, offers authoritative guidance on differential diagnosis and treatment of diseases and disorders in children and adolescents, and covers the symptoms you're likely to see in practice, their mimics, and uncommon disorders. Drs. Robert M. Kliegman, Heather Toth, Brett J. Bordini, and Donald Basel walk you through what to consider and how to proceed when faced with common symptoms such as cough, fever, headache, autistic-like behaviors, chronic pain, chest pain, gait disturbances, and much more. - Begins with a presenting symptom and leads you through differential diagnosis and a concise review of treatment recommendations. - Contains more than a dozen new topics including Disease Mimics: An Approach to Undiagnosed Diseases, Autistic-like Behaviors, Shock, Hypertension, Neurocognitive and Developmental Regression, Chronic Pain, Hypertonicity, Movement Disorders, Hypermobility, and more. - Features a new focus on symptoms of rarer diseases that are mimics of more common diseases. - Offers a user-friendly approach to Altered Mental Status such as coma and other CNS disorders, with numerous clinically useful tables and figures to guide clinical decision making in various care settings. - Uses a highly templated format for easy reference and quick answers to clinical questions, with the same consistent presentation in each chapter: History, Physical Examination, Diagnosis (including laboratory tests), Imaging, Diagnosis, and Treatment. - Includes numerous full-color illustrations, algorithms, tables, and "red flags" to aid differential diagnosis. - Serves as an ideal companion to Nelson Textbook of Pediatrics, 21st Edition. Book Description
This new book updates and expands Harold Burton's classic book, UHT Processing of Milk and Milk Products, to provide comprehensive, state-of-the-art coverage of thermal processing of liquid and particulate foods. The food products covered now include soups, sauces, fruit juices, and other beverages, in addition to milk and milk products. Pasteurization, sterilization, and aseptic processing are all discussed, with emphasis on the underlying principles and problems of heat treatment of more viscous fluids, where streamline flow conditions are likely to prevail, and of products containing particles. Pasteurization and heat treatments designed to further extend the shelf life of pasteurized products are also discussed, and the pasteurization and sterilization processes are compared to highlight similarities and differences. Throughout, factors influencing the safety and quality of heated foods are emphasized. This book contains over 100 illustrations and 50 tables, as well as extensive cross-referencing and a comprehensive reference section.

Book Description
Here’s a book that will appeal to all well-read individuals, at many levels, for many reasons. For starters, as an anthology it is a collection of texts--both fiction and non-fiction—that are just plain engaging, intrinsically so, whoever the author. No wonder, since they are all by some of the most accomplished, most admired, British and American writers of their time and to this day. Then there is the sheer surprise and pleasure in discovering that these texts are so unlike the work associated with these authors—again, authors whose enduring reputations lead you to think you could not be surprised by anything they wrote. And finally, the aspect that makes this anthology unique: the format that invites you to identify, to guess, just who is the author of the texts you have enjoyed. For this is how and why this anthology has been concocted: a deliberate selection of offbeat texts set forth in such a way that you will not learn whether you have guessed the correct author until you turn to the back of the book. And in fact, as “offbeat” as these texts are there are clues—whether in the subject matter, point of view or style—to give the perceptive reader a fair chance of guessing correctly. So go ahead—test your knowledge, your perceptiveness, all the while enjoying a good read!
