Book Description
Several years ago, two of us published a full-length textbook entitled Nutrition and Immunology: Principles and Practice. The book was aca demically successful and well received by our peers. Our colleagues commented that while the book was eminently suitable for a library, there was still an intellectual need for a more concise volume on nutrition and immunology for health care providers and scientists working at the inter face of delivering therapeutic and/or preventive health care. We agreed and decided that a book focused on issues relevant to laboratory workers and to developing countries would be valuable. We invited well-known experts in their fields to contribute a chapter each and asked that they err on the short rather than the long side and update cited review articles rather than original papers wherever possible. The Handbook of Nutrition and Immunity is the culmination of that process. Our intention is that the book will grow over time and new editions will fill identified voids that meet the changing needs of health care providers and scientists interested in the practical aspects related to evaluating nutrition and immunology in the field. The Handbook of Nutrition and Immunity is for those people working in both adult and child nutrition throughout the world. It is also of relevance to those in the pharmaceutical and the food industry who are interested in developing ways to evaluate both the efficacy and effective ness of their products.

Immunology Handbook
Author: Jim Wang
Publisher:
ISBN: 9781632422408
Category : Immunology
Languages : en
Pages : 0
Book Description
This book provides information on immunology, which is a branch of biomedical sciences to study the immune system physiology in both diseased and healthy states. Some aspects of autoimmunity enable us to understand that it is not always related to pathology. For example, autoimmune reactions are effective in clearing off the unwanted, excess or aged tissues from the body. Also, autoimmunity occurs after the exposure the non-self-antigen which is structurally similar to the self, assisted by the stimulatory molecules such as cytokines. Therefore, it can be said that there's a minor difference between immunity and auto-immunity. The question of how physiologic immunity changes to pathologic autoimmunity continue to interest researchers. Answer to such questions can be found by understanding physiology of the immune system. This book covers various topics organized under two sections: Nutrition & Immunology and Parasite Immunology. The contributors of this book have carefully selected topics which would be of reader's interests.

Handbook of Research on Pathophysiology and Strategies for the Management of COVID-19
Author: El Hiba, Omar
Publisher: IGI Global
ISBN: 1799882268
Category : Medical
Languages : en
Pages : 352
Book Description
According to the World Health Organization (WHO), coronavirus disease (COVID-19) is an infectious disease caused by a newly discovered coronavirus (SARS-Cov2), which may cause mild to moderate respiratory complications in most infected people. Older people and those with chronic and/or acute illnesses may present serious complications. Underlying mechanisms of the cellular responses to the virus are not fully revealed; therefore, understanding the pathophysiology of COVID-19 is crucial to provide efficient data to define the appropriate and effective therapeutic strategies to cure and prevent COVID-19-associated complications. The Handbook of Research on Pathophysiology and Strategies for the Management of COVID-19 summarizes and assembles the published data on COVID-19 and provides an answer to the reader for the mystery of SARS-Cov2’s impact on human health through a deep analysis of the current data available in the literature. This book addresses the epidemiology and infectious patterns of the disease and the recent pathophysiological mechanisms of the disease and relationships to the medical history of the patient. Covering topics from the tie between COVID-19 and respiratory disease to vaccination information, this comprehensive reference source is ideal for clinicians, health professionals, pathologists, virologists, researchers, academicians, and medical and PhD students.
