ANNELIES HAPPY and GUINEA PIG WILLI
Author: Jean-George Charbonnier
Publisher: epubli
ISBN: 3756512088
Category : Fiction
Languages : en
Pages : 98
Book Description
According to her Sammy, nickname guinea pig Willi, lives Lea, nicknamed Anneliese Happy, inmidst of all her cuddly toys under the self-proclaimed king, HD. HD has forgotten what day it was his birthday. That's why he celebrates this day in, day out. If Lea forgets this time, HD speaks of a bottomless mess, even an insult to majesty. Then HD threatens to have her beheaded, but has no hangman to do it. And so it remains an empty threat, because otherwise HD's only people, Lea, would be headless and useless for HD. Lea is surrounded by a flock of sheep which always want to eat meadows and drive through tunnels. The sheep include "the beautiful Marilyn", a "cuddly sheep" named Gerlinde, "Her little thing" and last but not least a "black sheep" named "Kamikaze". Kamikaze is the only one allowed to sit next to Lea on the passenger seat. This is essential, because Lea has an excavator driver's license, but not a tractor driver's license. That's why she always drives straight ahead and avoids curves. Lea actually wants to become an animal keeper later because she loves animals more than anything. To do this, she must be able to read and write perfectly. But she only learns that in school. But school sucks. Only the long break is absolutely cool, where Lea meets her Sammy. Timmy and his buddies are always teasing the little girls, but Lea fights back. So it comes back to solid fights between them again and again. This usually ends up with the headmaster or with the school nurse for further treatment.

Guinea Pigs
Author: Virginia Parker Guidry
Publisher: Fox Chapel Publishing
ISBN: 1937049078
Category : Pets
Languages : en
Pages : 145
Book Description
“Compact, easy-to-care-for, and a bundle of fun” is how author Virginia Parker Guidry describes the irresistible guinea pig. Ideal pets for families with children, cavies (as they’re often called) are clean, odorless, gentle, loving, and entertaining. This Complete Care Made Easy Guinea Pigs encapsulates all the virtues of these perfect small mammals and gives new owners practical advice about how to care for them. In chapter one, “A Guinea What?” the author talks about the guinea pig’s natural history—they’re neither pigs nor from Guinea, but rather a rodent from Peru—and how scientists classify this very unique mammal. To decide whether the guinea pig is right for you, chapter two discusses who makes the ideal owner and presents thirteen popular breeds of longhaired and shorthaired guinea pigs and the colors available to pet owners today. The chapter “Finding a Healthy Guinea Pig” offers solid advice about selecting the right guinea pig, where to purchase or adopt, and the preferred sex. A complete chapter on preparing for the guinea pig offers the reader excellent advice about acclimating the new pet to the home, selecting the best cage and hutch, and pig-proofing the home. The subject of understanding guinea pig behavior is discussed in the chapter “Living with a Guinea Pig,” which also covers daily-care topics such as feeding, grooming, handling, exercise, and litter box training. Keeping the guinea pig healthy is discussed in “Staying Healthy,” a chapter that covers preventing illness, choosing a veterinarian, and common ailments. The final chapter “Just for the Fun of It!” explores games, toys, activities, and showing guinea pigs. The appendix includes lists of pig-specific clubs, organizations, and websites. Glossary of terms and index included.

Passion for Excellence
Author: Haralampos M. Moutsopoulos
Publisher: Springer Nature
ISBN: 3031141288
Category : Medical
Languages : en
Pages : 192
Book Description
This autobiography chronicles the life and career of Haralampos M. Moutsopoulos, an internationally renowned professor of medicine and prolific researcher on Sjögren’s syndrome and autoimmune rheumatic diseases. In language that is simple and direct, he takes us on a fascinating journey from the days of his first scientific awakenings at a hospital in his native town of Ioannina, Greece, through his university years in Athens and training in the U.S., to his eventual return to his homeland. In Greece, he developed two centers of excellence in his field, first at the newly founded University of Ioannina Medical School Department of Internal Medicine and, second, at the Athens University Medical School, Department of Pathophysiology, where he taught until his retirement in 2011. Along the way, he introduces us to his teachers and mentors, and to the colleagues and students he mentored in turn, many of whom went on to assume high-ranking positions in Greece and abroad. A major theme throughout the book is his impassioned struggle for excellence, meritocracy, and transparency in universities and in the National Health System in Greece. Peppered with both amusing and unsettling incidents from this lifelong crusade to raise professional standards and against misconduct, the book is a must-read for anyone interested in learning about or entering the medical profession.

Henry Miller, Happy Rock
Author: Brassaï
Publisher: University of Chicago Press
ISBN: 0226071391
Category : Biography & Autobiography
Languages : en
Pages : 186
Book Description
"In a world like this one, it's difficult to devote oneself to art body and soul. To get published, to get exhibited, to get produced often requires ten or twenty years of patient, intense labor. I spent half my life at it! And how do you survive during all that time? Beg? Live off other people until you're successful? What a dog's life! I know something about that! You're always recognized too late. And today, it's no longer enough to have talent, originality, to write a good or beautiful book. One must be inspired! Not only touch the public but create one's own public. Otherwise, you're headed straight for suicide." That's Henry Miller's advice for young aspiring artists, as remembered by his very good friend Brassaï in this lively book. One of two that Brassaï wrote about the man who called himself a "happy rock," this volume covers their lives and friendship from the 1950s to 1973. Over the course of a number of warm, intimate conversations, Brassaï and Miller revisit their careers; discuss art, literature, Paris, Greece, Japan, World War II, and more; and consider the lives and works of many others in their circle, including Lawrence Durrell, Henri Matisse, Salvador Dalí, Georges Simenon, André Malraux, Hans Reichel, Paul Klee, and Amedeo Modigliani. Throughout Miller's zest for life shines through, as do his love of art and his passionate intensity for just about everything he does, from discussing a movie or play he'd just seen to reminiscing about a decades-long love. Brassaï's Henry Miller, Happy Rock presents a vivid portrait of two close friends who thoroughly enjoy each other's company—and just happen to be world—famous artists too.
