The current status of agricultural education in Pakistan is examined, with special emphasis on higher agricultural education and its links with environmental education, to provide an overview of the way agricultural education is practised in Pakistan's higher education institutions. The core part of the study consists of a survey to establish the extent to which environmental education is included in both teaching and research initiatives in the higher education institutions which currently provide agricultural education and training. The study has identified the major current problems as well as the potential for improvement. It identifies the obstacles which are likely to hinder the effective integration of an environmental education dimension into agricultural education in the country. As a contribution towards mitigating the perceived problems, a set of measures that might be helpful in addressing them are presented, which may be used to guide further development and planning of agricultural education in Pakistan.
