Book Description
An experiment was conducted to assess the grazing effect at a stocking rate of six (4-6 months old) Kambing Katjang/ha on the regrowth of six selected tropical grasses in an 18-year-old coconut stand on Bris. Signal grass was the highest DM yielder followed by Pangola and Guinea. Stargrass ranked the lowest while the indigenious grass, Zoysia matrella, was the most persistent. The IVDMD% of the grasses was generally low (50%). Acceptability of Pangola, Guinea and Slenderstem were higher than that of the other species. The daily liveweight gain of the goats averaged' 46.1 g/head/day. Coconut yield was increased with grazing. Coconut yield was increased with grazing. Soil nitrogen and mineral contents before and after grazing were not significant (P0.05) but organic and P contents were increased while K, Ca and Mg had declined by the end of the experiment. [Authors' abstract].
