L'école normale. Tous ceux qui ont été les élèves de ce maître regretté savent avec quel soin, avec quelle conscience et aussi avec quelle sùreté de méthode il préparait ses legons. A ceux-là je n'ai pas besoin de dire que l'état des manu scrits laissés par Riemann rendu ma làohe relativement facile. J'ai eu è. Ma disposition une ample collection de faits et d'exemples bien choisis eh bien classés il m'a suffi le plus souvent de les contròler et d'en tirer les règles ou les remarques appropnees. Le plan général de l'ouvrage m'était indiqué par l'ordre mème des leqons. Je l'ai scrupuleusement suivi, sauf em ce qui concerne l'emploi des modes dans les propositions subordonnées sur ce point j'ai eru bon d'adopter une disposition qui permet de suivre aisément le développement historique des constructions étudiées. B'ailleurs Riemann remaniait sans cesse son cours, le complétait 011 le corrigeait à mesure que les progrès de la science gramma ticale et son expérience personnelle lui faisaient apercevoir une modification nécessaire. Il eùt certainement adopté celle - ci je la lui avais signalée ct il l'avait approuvée. Tout le monde sait que nous avons été unis pendant quelques années malheureusement trop courtes par les liens d'une collaboration élroite. L'étude en commun de toutes les questions de syntaxe grecque et latine nous avait conduits à une complète unité de vues. Je n'ai donc pas besoin d'indiquer quelles sont dans le présent volume les parties qui sont entièrement de moi il y en un certain nombre, mais j'espère qu ou ne verra surtout que l'unilé de l'muvre.
