Book Description
My Big Wimmelbooks let kids ages 2 to 5 be the storytellers with hours of seek-and-find hands-on learning—and fun! My Big Wimmelbooks are popular daytime activities for kids: In these one-of-a-kind picture books, every page is bursting with life—and tons to discover! Children as young as age 2 have a blast pointing out recognizable things—a blue tricycle, a hungry dog, a piggyback ride—while older kids can follow the star characters from page to page, telling their stories along the way. Wimmelbooks are virtually instruction-free, inviting kids to make their own way through the busy Wimmelworld they encounter, and to craft their own stories. But sometimes kids don’t have all day! Rather than one long story that progresses from page to page, in My Big Wimmelbook—Good Night, six nighttime scenes—from a slumbering fairytale woodland to a dozing toy store—depict a few hidden characters going about their night as they prepare for bed. Why are the toy rabbits having a pillow fight with the zebra? What are Jim the Giant’s friends yelling up at him to try to wake him up? With soothing subdued colors and activity on every page, kids will be entertained as they drift to sleep. Able to be returned to again and again, Wimmelbooks are hours upon hours of fun—and an effortless introduction to literacy to boot. About Wimmelbooks Wimmelbooks originated in Germany decades ago and have become a worldwide sensation with children (and adults!) everywhere. My Big Wimmelbooks is the first-ever Wimmelbook series to feature Wimmelbooks as Wimmelbooks in English. They’ve been praised as “lively . . . and abounding with humor and detail” (WSJ), likely to “make any parent’s heart sing.” (NYT)

Book Description
“You don’t have to be a Yankees fan to love Yankee Miracles.”—Yogi Berra If it was not all so true, you’d think it was a fairy tale. A seventeen-year-old from Queens spray paints graffiti on Yankee Stadium and gets nabbed by George Steinbrenner himself. Contrary to his gruff public image, the Boss—driven by a compassionate inner voice—reclaims the teen at a time when the Bronx is literally burning. Thus begins the unlikeliest of baseball stories, one in which Ray Negron is transformed from street kid to batboy and beyond. Befriending many of major league baseball’s greatest stars—Billy Martin, Reggie Jackson, Munson, Mantle, Catfish, A-Rod, Jeter, even Mrs. Lou Gehrig—Negron ultimately emerges as a dynamic community leader, dedicating his own life to helping the sick and rescuing generations of city kids from unfulfilled lives. Yankee Miracles is a book about the power of baseball to transform lives, about all those miracles on 161st Street we never knew were there.

Book Description
Short Writings from Bulawayo won the Literature in English category at the 2005 Zimbabwe Book Publishers Association awards. It is a book of stories, poems and non-fiction pieces that are evocative of Zimbabwe's second city and its rural surroundings. The collection from 23 contributors tells of many things: of family and friendship, or fear and death, or witches and spirits, of hunger and drought, of dreams and aspirations, of leaving home and leaving Zimbabwe, of queues and loneliness, of football and bicycles and of growing old and of love. A unifying theme of many of the stories and poems is loss - of innocence, of purpose, of love, of culture, of belonging, and of life.

Book Description
From the first chapter of Ann Marie Corgills Of Primary Importance: What's Essential in Teaching Young Writers, you experience the swirling energy, the sights, and the sounds of a primary classroom. Forming the heart of the book are detailed units of study on poetry, nonfiction, and fiction writing that provide a clear demonstration of the writing workshop process at work throughout a school year. You'll also find examples of favorite texts for teaching various craft components, ideas for classroom organization and where to purchase materials, suggestions for publishing student work, lists of professional resources and, most importantly, inspiring examples of what children who are empowered to write can and will write. Of Primary Importance is not a how-to manual as much as it is a celebration of the idiosyncratic journey of teaching young children to write. If you are a grade-one through grade-three teacher struggling to get your students writing well, if you want to push your writing workshop to new dimensions, or if you are just plain skeptical that primary kids can write something beyond "I love my mom. I love my dog. The end," this book is for you. You will come away inspired, challenged, supported, and wiser in your classroom writing instruction.

Book Description
Eric Leif DaVietnamesen was raised as a Southern Baptist and Mormon convert, although he was always a non-believer. However, like everyone else in his blue collar surroundings, he believed in America, the military, anti-Communism, and, although too young to vote, Senator Barry Goldwater when he ran for president in 1964. Then, in the Sixties, he went to college and became swept up in the movements of the times. He came to realize that everything he'd believed about "his war," the Vietnameseetnam War, was wrong. He came to believe that we were more than just on the "wrong side." We were the wrong side. Eventually he was drafted. However, he refused induction into the military, preferring to face five years in prison, the maximum sentence, rather than fight in an immoral war. This memoir describes his journey through the Sixties, from a working class gung-ho Goldwater Republican supporter of the Vietnameseetnam War to a radicalized anti-war actiVietnamesest who was eventually drafted to fight in that war -- but refused to go.
