Book Description
God Is Not a Bully: A Not-So-Churchy Memoir, addresses bullying in the spiritual realm like no book has before. Against the backdrop of growing up as a one-day stage performer, musician and educator, is the author's experience of identifying and overcoming various bullies, whether they be individuals or institutions, and the consequential acceptance of a broader spirituality. The memoir encompasses the innocence and curiosity we all have about who we are, why the world is, our part in it-an innocence that gets slowly eaten away by people and institutions who tell us we are less than we should be-and how we can learn to return to that innocence as an adult. From Southern Baptist Christianity to liturgical Episcopalianism, Celtic spirituality to Shamanic ritual, the author playfully hitchhikes through the worlds of family, institution, and self in search of a deeper calling from the Divine.

Book Description
Is the world better off without Christianity? Combining narrative with keen critique of contemporary debates, author and historian John Dickson gives an honest account of 2,000 years of Christian history that helps us understand what Christianity is and what it's meant to be. To say that the Christian Church has an "image problem" doesn't quite capture it. From the Crusades and the Inquisition to the racism and abuse present in today's Church--both in Catholic and Protestant traditions--the institution that Christ established on earth has a lot to answer for. But the Church has also had moments throughout history when it has been in tune with Jesus' teachings--from the rise of charity to the invention of hospitals. For defenders of the faith, it's important to be able to recognize the good and bad in the church's history and be inspired to live aligned with Christ. For skeptics, this book is a thought-provoking introduction to the idea that Christianity is, despite all, an essential foundation of our civilization. Bullies and Saints will take you on a big-picture journey from the Sermon on the Mount to the modern church: Giving contextual accounts of infamous chapters of Christian history, such as the Crusades, and acknowledging their darkness. Outlining the great movements of the faith and defending its heroes and saints, some of whom are not commonly recognized. Examining the Church beside the teachings and life of Jesus and how it has succeeded in its mission to imitate Christ.

Book Description
God is good, God does good, and oh, how He wants you to be happy. In her new book, The Sacrament of Happy: What a Smiling God Brings to a Wounded World, Lisa Harper unveils that happiness is a gift from God that we can unashamedly enjoy. Happiness tends to be cast as a fluffy emotion without substance rather than a biblical concept, but this is not theologically accurate. Wearing the twin hats of both seminarian and belly-laughing adoptive mom, Lisa Harper dismantles the old-school idea that joy, not happiness, is the truly spiritual emotion, and asserts that Christ-followers are actually called to happiness. We are called to happiness, and this happiness is not impacted by personal or global tumult. In fact, happiness is a sacrament. The general definition of sacrament is “a visible sign of inward grace.” In communities of faith, it most often refers to holy communion or the Eucharist. In the broadest understanding, however, a sacrament is a gift bestowed by God, and in that case, ‘happiness’ is absolutely a sacrament—a visible, sometimes even audible, sign of inward grace! Lisa shares heart-wrenching difficult stories from her past, as well as some side-splitting hilarity along the way. Throughout the book, we see that happiness and sadness can coexist and ebb and flow like the tides. Christine Caine, Founder of A21 & Propel Women, had this to say about Lisa’s new book: "The Sacrament of Happy—like all of Lisa’s messages and books—enriches my understanding of God and His Word—and His great love for us. As always, she unfolds biblical truth so clearly and calls me to action. Every. Single. Time.”

Book Description
Have you ever been bullied? Well, it is not a pleasant experience. You could be bullied by someone you know or by a stranger. And this bully may hurt you by saying mean words or by hurting you physically when this bully hits you or pushes you down. Today, our story begins with a boy who is in kindergarten, and he is playing outside during recess. His name is Zane. And Zane is usually a happy five-year-old boy. But today, another boy has taken Zane's toy and has pushed him down hard on the ground. Zane can't believe what has just happened to him. A stranger has just hurt him. He doesn't know what to do. But then it is the end of recess (playtime outside), and Zane returns to his kindergarten classroom. Next, he rides his bus to the aftercare childcare where he decides to tell his teacher what happened on recess today. His teacher, Ms. Diane, reminds Zane of his faith and belief in Jesus. She tells him that he had been bullied today. She also tells him how someone was also bullied over two thousand years ago. Jesus was hurt much worse because a group of mean people didn't believe Jesus was telling the truth when he announced that he was God's Son. They thought he was lying to them. Ms. Diane reminds Zane of the importance of prayer. They pray together for safety and protection for Zane, and they also pray for this unknown bully. The name of this boy doesn't matter because our Heavenly Father knows him. This bully may live in an unsafe home where he has learned or seen someone mistreated. So they also pray for this bully. After praying, Zane begins to giggle. Ms. Diane asks Zane what has made him laugh. Read along to the end to find out why Zane is giggling and no longer sad. Remember, if you have been bullied, it is important to tell an adult, an older person who will listen, because maybe that bully needs help too.
