In the context of FAO's Global Action (GA) on Green Development of Special Agro-Products (SAPs), themed as “One Country – One Priority Product” (OCOP), given that OCOP shares similar philosophy as the One Village One Product (OVOP) movement and taking advantages of the rich experiences of OVOP and advances made by Asian countries, especially Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA)'s support in many OVOP projects around the world, this publication presents an overview of the OVOP movement globally and showcases how OVOP can boost rural economies and increase food security nutrition through the development of local products hence contributing to SDG 1, 2, and 10. Chapter I explains what OVOP is and how it has been disseminated outside Japan. Chapter II provides overview of JICA's support for OVOP. In Chapter III, JICA’s OVOP projects are analyzed in terms of their objectives, alignment to strategic policy framework, target population, products/services, governance structure and monitoring and evaluation. Chapter IV reviews the process and interventions taken in OVOP projects and identifies good practices.Chapter V lists success factors which are extracted from OVOP projects. FAO’s One Country–One Priority Product (OCOP) projects are encouraged to refer to them in their planning and implementation phases. Lastly, in Chapter VII, several implications and recommendations for OCOP are drawn from OVOP experiences of JICA.

Over the past 60 years high-income countries have invested over 4000 billion euros in development aid. With varying degrees of success, these investments in low-income countries contributed to tackling structural problems such as access to water, health care, and education. Today, however, international development cooperation is no longer restricted to helping by giving. Instead, it is rather about opportunities, mutual interests, risk taking, and an inclusive societal approach. This is an Open Access book. The primary objective of this book is to seek out insights into the concept of high-quality growth (HQG). It explores the essential attributes of HQG, such as inclusiveness, sustainability, and resilience, as well as its relationship with transformation, by drawing principally on illustrative cases and instances of international cooperation. The United Nations document on Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) states that "We resolve to create conditions for sustainable, inclusive and sustained economic growth, shared prosperity and decent work for all." As such, the concept of quality growth is inherent in many aspects of the SDGs. A similar approach can be seen in the Development Cooperation Charter announced by the Japanese government in 2015. According to the Charter, one of the most important challenges of development is quality growth and the reduction of poverty achieved through such growth. The approach in the Charter emphasizes inclusiveness, sustainability, and resilience. This volume is a pioneering study on quality growth as well as its relationship with SDGs and transformation. Comprehensive studies on quality growth are very few. The case study approach distinguishes the present volume from some previous literature that discussed quality growth within the framework of general policy. Instead, in this book, concrete cases and experiences provide insights into hands-on "ingredients". Through the case studies, it can be seen more clearly that transformation and quality growth are phenomena that do not occur automatically but, rather, ones that require specific, properly designed strategies and approaches.
